Agreed zetta, but then Montoya seems to attract a large number of negative comments from some factions, doesn't he? Australia was a bad mistake but, for someone of his talent, it will be a lesson duly acknowledged and I cannot see it happening again. Rearward assaults tho' are another matter and are COMPLETELY out of his control.

I interpreted that as "the time between the accident and the end of the pit stop". I thought the "contact" was the contact between Montoya and Pizzonia.
You are right Don, you didn't misinterpret at all. 5 mins 45 seconds is from the second of contact to the second he exited the white line at the end of the pit lane.

He would've been in the podium, no doubt about it, the car was good, I think he could've fight Kimi and Michael for the top spots.

Still, bring on Brazil, Williams are usually good there.

According to Sam Michael, Chief Operations Engineer Williams, Montoya's lap times were good. But he don’t know were Montoya could have finished.

But I agree, we'll have to wait TAG file.

More attacking the poster Damon? Surely you know the rules?

You also know that I have acknowledged his drives when they deserve it. I just don't go with the propaganda.

Right, after watching it again, from the time Kimi crosses the start/finish line at the end of lap 1 to the time JPM exits the pits is a total of 4 mins 20 seconds which equates to 2 and 2/3rds laps.

This is the crucial bit.....

JPM finished 3 laps and so many seconds behind (unfortunatly i don't know the exact seconds ), but, if it's within 3 laps 9 seconds he'd have been on the podium in second, within 3 laps and 29 seconds he'd have been on the podium in third and within 3 laps and 57 seconds he'd have pipped Rafe to fourth. (had the first lap accident not happened)

Another thing - Montoya was switched to a one-stop - a gamble which didn't pay off and which was more likely an experiment on the part of the team... The only way he could have scored points is with fewer than nine finishers, in which case he would have scored a point from five laps back as easily as five seconds back.

Yeah, you have to remember that his strategy was screwed by stopping on lap 1, he was thus carrying more fuel.

Looking at the numbers from Mr V, its hard to know how effective the 1-stop was, because JV and Frentzen were probably the only contenders one-stopping and both were out of contention straight away. But I suspect that the advanteg of being able to refuel was more than cancelled out by it. Does anyone know how many of the lead-lap finishers had crossed the line before Montoya did? If we can get that we can get a better guess as to whether 2,3 or 4 would've been the likely result.

He would've beaten Ralf though, and that's the crucial statistic.
