You could add Sports Sedans to that Patto and it would be a ball tearer of a weekend. I'm sure most S/S blokes would jump at the chance to have a crack around the mountain.

Oops! Sorry about that CD! I forgot the fastest tintops in the country!
This meeting just keeps getting better. Now if we throw in PSC, FF & FV we now have 11 classes which would be capable of getting 55 car entries. Now 11 x 55 x $550 = $332,750. Without knowing the costs of staging a race meeting or hiring the various component parts of the venue, I can't help thinking that this looks like a viable proposition.................. |

Keith Carling won in the turbocharged Nissan 300ZX, and Kerry Baily wrapped up his first SS Championship. |

1970 was the last time wings and slicks were seen on the Mountain, considering the developments Formula 5000 underwent in the next few years it was absolutely the right decision. They were banned for good reason then, bringing them back with the cars older, more fatigued and with drivers perhaps less able to get the best out of them is hardly a decision that needs much thought.
Carling claimed the outright lap record that day which took a year or two for the V8s to reclaim IIRC. Oh the opportunities that car presented with some budget. Sports Sedans raced supports there in 1991 as well. I think Nambour racer Jeff Barnes won one race in his Chev Monza. Barnesy still races Chev powered Sports Sedans. DK: the outright lap record was held by Neil Allen's Formula 5000 for 14 years. After that the circuit configuration changed and the record was rebooted and claimed by John Goss. Keith Carling is the only non-touring car driver to have held the outright lap record. |

At this stage, I don't really care what, if anything, they bring to the Mountain. They have BLCC (Bathurst Light Car Club) events there such as hillclimbs and supersprints, but the only real event that the Mountain holds is the V8's. They have the East Coast Targa and now its the centre of the ARC round, but most people want to see the entire circuit being used, not just parts of it. I'd attend anything at Mount Panorama in terms of circuit racing - cars, bikes, utes, trucks, buses...anything!! One event each year is not enough.
