Track was declared WET for FP1. Maybe there's 2 to 3 seconds still to find. Which would put it at 2008 petrol LMP1 pace.

The Toyota looks a lot more at home at Monza than at the 2 previous venues, judging by the body language.

With 20 minutes left in the third free practice session the top Toyota is one second up on the second place car. That is a huge gap between the team cars, that I suspect won't be so large once we get to qualifying later today.

How strange: no moaning so far from either Vasselon, Glickenhaus or Sinault on how the LMP2's are WAY too fast and need to be slowed down.

To be honest, if this is how the gap is going to stay, for Monza it's too small. I expected a lot more from cars presumably designed for low drag and packing a massive power advantage. It just doesn't compute in my head.
In the latest podcast MP mentioned that his sources say GR010 has serious inherent problems and is to get a comprehensive "joker" redesign for next year. Which means it may not be the best benchmark for what an LMH can be. Which then puts a number of things, including "stratification" and SCG 007 performance, into a different perspective... Tyres look like they may be a factor in the race. All could be affected, but Glickenhaus might be vulnerable there.
Hopefully not… Last edited by Adam43; 17 Jul 2021 at 14:37. |

Sucks about the red flag; both Glick's put on new tires and were about to go for a flyer. Hoping for no mistakes in the race

Yeah, the red flag was a bit of an anti-climax. The WEC flied looks great at Monza, I must say. A breath of fresh air after all the wide open tilkedromes and the tilked-over Spa.

Which, under the current style of rules, seems sensible and appropriate.
Might encourage Peugeot to be at Le Mans next year too. |

Not 100% on this but I thought I read in the new regs that one joker update is available to be used. Can't say for sure.

That LMP2 FCY restart was meme-worthy!
Also, I hope GTE, which is dead, I'm told, stays this dead for Le Mans. What do we know about the SCG vs GR010 fuel strategy? Nice to see 709 showing some pace. And, actually, 708 is even faster now that the issue's fixed. Those trap speeds in the WEC live timing (far right column), how far are they from actual top speeds? Toyota's showing 303km/h, surely that can't be right! Good point! I wasn't aware of the joker thing before MP mentioned it. |

The 708 Glick was running on 7 cylinders, apparently a spark plug was broken. They came in during an FCY to fix it.
