It is a good name, but doesn't bring anything positive to the table. At this point, but the ALMS and Grand Am have negative connotations, so those are both out.
I think IMSA has some positive, IMSA Sportscar Championship. IMSA GTP and GT. North American Endurance Championship isn't bad. |

Ok then, the North American Endurance and Sprint Sportscar Championship
NAEASSC. North American Multi-Durational Sportscar Championship. Really though, the name is far less important than the product. |

To cover both sprints and endures: North American Motorsports Bi-Length Association.
A winning acronym makes all the difference. |

Perfect. In addition to an acronym that rolls off the tongue, it is very inclusive of bi-length people as well. Someone needs to stand up for them.

"Daytona, Sebring, Road Atlanta, Watkins Glen Endurance Racing Championship plus some shorter races at less well known, but still exciting venues" It doesn't really roll off the tongue that well and I am not even sure what the acronym would be. I am sure the web address will be hard to type. At least I didn't work in "America" into the name, so those north and south of us don't have to feel left out. Richard |

I thought of this one today:
"World Series Racin' League for them Whine and Cheese Sportycar People Sponsored by Boudreaux's Butt Paste and Presented by AJ Foyt's Big Sammiches" I imagine that wont fly but it's worth a shot. |

It's easier to keep Rolex Sports Car Series.

Easier, but as effective? It's not as if there were any negative connotations there, eh?
If 80% of the initial fanbase associates a trademark with what it considers to be an inferior product ... well, ask someone in marketing how that works out. If--IF--the rules and classes of the new series are so amazingly pleasing to the old ALMS fans that every one of those fans wants to watch regardless of the name, then, well, the name won't matter. However ... if the fans are not happy with the rules and classes, the name will seem to indicate that NASCAR doesn't care about the fans. Since the name is likely to be announced before the rules are released, if the same old name is used, fans are likely to assume that NASCAR won't be making many changes, which might cause the fans to look unkindly upon the rules, whereas if the name were to be changed (that's a subjunctive "were" used correctly; let's not debate number agreement) if the series were given a new name fans might look at the rules with less bias, and might even tolerate less-than-excellent rules (so long as such rules were understood to be temporary until a new lead class could be designed in conjunction with ACO in 2016 or 2017.) For the new series to expect a successful launch, it will need to bring All the old fans on board and keep them through the first several races. There will be plenty of negative voices no matter what; the new series needs to give them as little fuel as possible. In this delicate time, it would be best to start with what appears to be a fresh sheet. There will already be too many holdovers from the past. |

Since the Apple trend is popular, they can go with this; I-NASCAR. Inter-National association of SPORTS car racing. I can hear it now. Boogity boys, I Nascar is Nascar but for sports cars. At least that sounded right in my head.
