Yeah I was going to comment on that too James. The SRS are supposed to make their debut at Taupo, and from there I thought they were to be locked in for every round for 3 years assuming its sustainable.
Maybe its as simple as a type o from the category? I am sure Mark will fill us in. One could argue that the HD round is a v8 fest.....but not all cars currently on the undercard run a vee eight engine. |

Just image how well some past as well as current participants would go. Could be fun. |

ST/Hampton Downs Press release "Alongside them in a huge line up at the inaugural event will be the UDC V8 Utes, Central Muscle Cars, NZV8 Touring Cars, GT1 and GT2, NZGT and Formula Libre single seaters and sportscars." No Sssangyong's , surely if the were they would have been include in the release. 6 classes already, getting busy. |

The SRS Championship runs at all the V8ST rounds, except the Australian V8 Supercar round. |

The media release was done by Hampton Downs and in line with their other themed events they are promoting the meeting as a V8 Festival. The SRS Actyon Sport race utes certainly don't fit that theme, end of story really. |

These Actyon Utes with a high centre of gravity, high profile tyres, and high ground clearance are a recipe for needing "This Way Up" signage on them.
They may make a good spectator class after all. Not long to wait now. |

There is one consistent message coming from all the people that have driven them in anger so far, and that is how well they handle considering what they are. We will have at least 22 on the grid at Taupo, possibly as high as 25. We have 3 girls locked in already and are talking seriously to another two, likely lass's. The average age of the drivers is 20, however with a couple of much older guys we expect to commit in the next couple of weeks its probably going to rise to an average age of about 23. The SRS Actyon Sport Ute's are never going to "wow" anybody with their speed however, we have seen times drop from 2.10 at Taupo 3 months ago, by nearly 10 seconds, so we expect to see the fastest ute's running at just under 2 minutes if we get some sunshine on the weekend of the 27th September next. The old adage is "don't knock it unless you have tried it" holds true for these unlikely race vehicles. |

Hey Mark, don't know if you will see this before the weekend but could you pop an entry list on the page I hear you have 25 cars or so?

These utes are slab sided, high, long, and slow. What an ideal sponsors billboard.
Sponsors will do well with this series, and it has been 20 years since we have had this many 1 make new vehicle series entries. Nissan Sentra was the last, I think. |

How many Ssangyong utes are the equivalent cost of one new TRS car?
The times on the monitor look fairly close across the field at qualifying. |

p1. 02:03.382 p25. 02:10.053 considering the level of experience between the person in P1 and the person in p25. the difference is pretty much what you'd expect first time out in a new series. it's a shame the person in p1 isn't in a st! |

I'd take that to mean that there are a lot of entries because comparatively it is dirt cheap to enter and run one. It's good to see, in any case.

Seems that there isn't a lot of love out there for the SRS that screened on TV today, sounds like I didn't miss much

It was the first meeting of the Ssangyong utes.
I thought it was great. Cory Holmes might be a real talent - I hope he gets a go in a proper rally car one day. Would a bit of basic telemetry from at least one vehicle to show they are going faster than 50 km/h if superimposed on the tv production ? and maybe a few comments from a few drivers as they are going around. (the angle of the in-ute cameras did not quite show the dial speedo, I was mainly watching the steering wheel tussles when they were doing slides in the wet) The 2015 Formula Ford ecoboost 3 cylinder (Formula 4) is likely to cost more than 38K euros as the starting point. NZ needs its own vehicles - as rear wheel drive vehicles could the Ssangyong utes be like the Mk1 Escorts were in their day ? ( a starter production based vehicle for motorsport purposes.) Why not? These would teach no more or less than a Swift. Decidedly cheaper than a BMW Mini - which I didn't mind because they needed proper skill to drive fast.
Mostly what an entry level one make series needs to be is enjoyable and affordable. The lifecycle on a one-make production vehicle seems be about 3 - 4 years before the next big thing comes along. The other thing it needs to have is cheap parts The fact that they've been able to entice a good handful of folks into the series is great. I get the feeling that a few of the old boys get sniffy because they have too many vowels in the manufactures name |
