Maybe have some pics somewhere, but it was in a terrible state.
The cars that ran in Japan are usually quite interesting as BMW Motorsport never sold a new M3 to Japan. Schnitzer sent the Chan M3 there as a new built car but all of the others almost certainly have a previous history in Europe. Alex |

If that is your viewpoint, why on earth would you be reading a link specifically about them? How odd! Ian.

#10820
Hello,
I'm renovating #10820, a 1989 "kit" built and run by SDA Racing in French touring car events through '92. It was rented for Rafael Barrios to contest, successfully, the '93 Spanish touring car title. It was laterused to contest regional and national French hillclimbs, winning and setting records, from '01 to '07. Any photos, records, memories or technical data would be welcome. Freude am fahren! |

SDA M3
You mean M3-1-082. The car was sold to SDA in January 1988, not 89. You might have an extra year of history to research !!

We have chassis nr. M3 123407, the car is white outside and purple inside.
Does anybody know the history of this car? Thanks in advance, Jan. |

I don't have the chassis nr. of your car on my list, but comparing it to the chassis nrs. I have, it looks like a very late car, probably 1992? Does it have the later spec. cage that ran back to the "C" pillar? Conrad |

The colours you have are what Linder always used when they were a works team, but that chassis number is from `92 by which time Linder were no longer a factory tem. Is there a Linder chassis plate on the right front inner wing ?

Hello Conrad,
I am not sure what you mean, but there is a plate in the lefthand door opening with 1.91on it. |

Hi Jan,
That is a little bit strange, if the Matter plate says 1;91 that is the buld date. Which does not tie in with the chassis number. Where did you find the chassis number & what other symbols were present?? Is the harness mounting on the rear parcel shelf? Or is there a harness bar? Is there another main roll hoop in the rear window area? Where do the diff mounting bolts show? And are there only 2 or are there 4 ? |

Hmm very strange! That is not a 92 shell, in fact it looks like a very early shell, as the airjacks at the front are in front of the wheels, and the front inner wheelarches do not look raised. Although the tag in the L/H door is from Matter, so it is a "proper" shell. The purple is not the Linder blue, theirs was more dark blue than this, I have not seen this interior colour before and I don't think it was originally this colour, most probably white.
Can you post a pic of the engine bay showing the front strut top mounts, and maybe some pics of the front and rear suspension, this might give some more clues to the build year? Conrad P.S. I have chassis #121407,(making it chassis 214) and mine is a late 92 spec. shell. But yours is an earlier spec. with a later number. (making yours #234) very odd. Conrad, the colour on the pictures are not the real colours due to the flashlight. It is more purple. It is the original colour, there is no paint underneath it. Suspension is 1991 and there is ABS on the brakes. The wheel arches are not raised and there are a lot of Linder parts on it.

Hello Jan,
can you post a few more pics of the car? There might be some clues in the spec. or the paintwork. As you know ABS was only from 91 onwards, but the shell looks like an early spec. Possibly an early spec. car that was updated in 91 or 92. Do you have the original wagenpass, or any other documents that might give a clue to previous owners? Conrad |

Does this help you, Conrad? Richmotorsport raced the car in Hungary from 2001 to 2008. Outside the car was yellow at the time. There is an old Italian batery from the ninetys in the car. We don't have any original papers.

Hello Jan,
that looks like an early shell to me, the cage design is pre 1990. as it only has one door bar, and the position of the airjacks as mentioned earlier is I think 1988 spec. It is running a Bosch Motronic which was usually pre 1990. Someone has retro fitted the ABS system and suspension, the ABS ECU does not normally sit on the tunnel where yours is. The steering wheel spacer is Linder I think. Something I have not seen on any Matter shells, is that the mounting platform for the (road car) spring is still visible, normally these were removed on the Gp.A and DTM shells. Can you put a picture of the engine bay? Conrad Last edited by brown dog; 13 May 2010 at 10:52. |

Hello Jan,
I am wondering if this is a Matter shell at all? There are only two master cylinders in the engine bay, and the heater core still fitted is unusual. And the rear spring perch still fitted is very odd. What do you think Alex??? Conrad |
