EJ may well have been given information by Bernie ahead of the meeting and has been able to do the deal with that in mind.

Any news on what Trevor Carlin's role will be?

He's mooted as the race-team manager from 2006 - but I haven't seen anything on whether that will be brought forward to this season.

Seems like the team won't take the Midland name at all for 2005, which is interesting, although Eddie's role will still be immediately stepping back to merely the commercial side - I just hope he carries on going to the races regularly, and that they can now get 2 decent drivers involved.

Dominguez is certainly good enough to toil somewhere between mid-field and the back. One has to wonder, is the deal for Dominguez final final, or is it contingent on Mexican sponsorship comming in?

Dominguez is probably not good enough to get close to the car's potential, and that's the key point. In F1 terms he could only ever get in as a pay-driver. I'm not sure about his exact sponsorship, but I think it's largely dependant on the planned 2006 Mexican Grand Prix.

What colour are the Midland cars likely to be, based on their potential sponsors?

B&H said they wont work with a new team, but with EJ dealing with Sponsors now, maybe they will stay for 2005 before a full Midland takeover, what ever happens it wont matter as Midland have the money to put in.
Its just a sad day for us Jordan fans that the team will be gone after 2005. |

Midland may not carry sponsorship in the traditional sense.
They'll look for marketing opportunities a la Chelsea's dumping of Umbro for Adidas. The new owner is MEGA rich. |

I disagree regarding Dominguez ability to be in F1 on merit. I was really impressed with Dominguez in 2004. He was not ready for CC in 2002, but in 2003 he used that experience and menoring from Moreno to improved dramatically and was fast and agressive. In 2004 his speed improved again, but he looked much tidier and his frequent passes were much more calculated. Another consideration is that he looked like his car was well sorted out compared to RHR or he was just able to hide its deficiencies better.
Considering drivers like Massa, Bernoldi and Sato (who's now starting to show, but needed experience) got into F1, there's no reason why Dominguez couldn't be in F1 and be successful. |

How do you know? Have you seen his F1 testing times? Listened in on his feedback to F1 engineers? No? That's probably because he hasn't even sat in an F1 car yet. There is no basis to judge whether he could get close to the potential of an F1 car. Hell, we don't even really know how close he got to the potential of his Champ Car. All we know is that Mario has put in some dynamite performances in a largely underfunded Champ Car team. Plus he's a racer ....... and I love to see a racer get a go. Good luck to him, I say ...... I just hope he's given a bit of time to get used to it all. |

Fair enough, but I'm still not convinced he's good enough. Considering some of the talent trying to break out of ChampCars (especially Bourdais and Allmendinger), it's a shame mario is effectively jumping the queue with money, but we'll have to wait and see.
