Of course they are are varied bunch of people, but they have one thing in common - they have decided to give marshalling a try; whatever their motivation, it's up to us to ensure that they enjoy what they are doing & want to come back for more. Coming into the job mid-season they may not have had the benefit of a training day - they are coming into a strange, potentially dangerous, environment with very little knowledge of what's involved. Some will be apprehensive, others will be over-enthusiastic, some will be gregarious, others will be shy, some will stand out as natural marshals, others may have less obvious talents. Our job, as more experienced marshals, is to help & encourage them & to pass on our experience.

Dave, you need to be the one writting the next marshals hand book - well said.

Norbet I've had a clio proof front bumper fitted to the truck specialy for this meet!! so the marshalls on 22 can hide with us behind it and just wave the oil flag over the bonnet

Ha Ha. Well yes I can understand where you are coming from. I suppose some will see it as a cheap way of watching motorsport.
As for me, well yes, obviously I want to be near the racing, but also to hopefully get involved in a bit of the action, and do a bit more than just watching.
I applied direct to BARC to marshal, and didnt ever see any of the recruitment drives.... too busy watching the racing and the bods in orange on the bank I suppose!
Anyhow I hope to see you there... then you can make your own mind up....not sure if thats a good thing though.... you cynics can be a difficult bunch... I know because I am one!

I think I got the gist of that. I would say that it's probably not too late to volunteer. For Donington, last weekend, I put my form in the post on Monday morning, and had my tickets by Friday. You outghta give it a try.

No parking is free, marshals parking left hand side of entrance road.
Run parallel to the road up to the top of the field, have your ticket with you as there will be security on the gate.

vw_nut, send me pm with your address.

For BTCC marshals' parking is usually with team members on RIGHTHAND side of main entrance road -- lefthand side is for public.

Last year you needed a 'Car Park B' pass to get in there. If you didn't have a track pass you had to park with Joe Public.

I spoke to Becci, no passes needed If you dont get a track pass. The car park for the marshals is "B"

Have a track pass - posted 19 - 6
No track Pass you will be on post 18 - 5

Simple!

So presumably with a track pass you just drive round the track to your post?

ya sure do,
when you turn up for sign on
park on the track on pit straight,
you might see 1 or 2 others parked there
