We don't get but one of the models and it's often leased. 7s lose value in the US like aged milk so doubt they are pushing hard for US sales. Baby engined 3,4,5s yes, some 6 and 8s I'd guess but it's all SUV market here.

How much of the hood is just BMW not accounting for taste and building to meet the pedestrian safety rules? It's not like they have made cars any one want as art pieces for more than a few model runs lately.

It was UK specialist press saying that the car was styled to appeal to the US and China, but of course that could just be them surmising.....

I wondered about the front and pedestrian safety rules, but other manufacturers seem able to meet them without resorting to such a vulgar front! Your reference to recent models and art statements (not) is pretty much how I view their range nowadays. IMHO the last good looking one was the ‘F06’ 6 series Gran Coupe.....

Think it's X3-7 production for the world from that plant, sadly used to make Z3/4s but now BMW badged junk. And it looks like that front is contagious, although there'e another thread for this but wow, ugly knows no bounds.

I looked at that front on picture and could only see a BMW 7 series designed Jag. Bentley really just isn't trying and they are dull dull cars, even though that would be a dull car with a beast engine by design

Yeah, I could have sworn a shooting brake was usually a 2 door "sports" car with an amended body to make it wagon adjacent. I'd call a 4 door version a wagon, estate, hatch, etc. Although I believe Mercedes and Porsche call their wagons both shooting brakes officially.

Wikipedia suggests that:

'Shooting-brake is a term for car body style which originated in the 1890s as a horse-drawn wagon used to transport shooting parties with their equipment and game'
'Since the 1960s, the term has evolved, describing cars combining elements of both station wagon and coupé body styles' - neither of which is a Sedan.

Perhaps Shooting Brakes are the true SUV?

Sports - coupe body style
Sports - for carrying sport (shooting) equipment

Utility - combining a sporty car with an ability to support sporting activities.

Mercedes-Benz EQS - although can a car described as a 'plush new EQS electric saloon' be classed as a saloon if it has a liftback bootlid?

'The heavily curved roofline and relatively shallow glasshouse is similar to that seen on the CLS, while the fastback-style rear contains a liftback-style bootlid similar to that of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupé.

The EQS is expected to be powered by two electric motors – one on the front axle and the other at the rear – providing permanent four-wheel drive. In the EQC, this set-up will deliver more than 400bhp and some 516lb ft. A lithium ion battery with a capacity of around 90kWh is planned to provide a range of between 400 and 500km (248-311 miles).'
