I dont mind the gold and black livery, and i think they might agree to do so. The 'Johnnie Walker' look on the McLaren which is expected to take on the look of the 'Johnnie Walker Black Label', and look very similar to the 'John Player Special' Lotus of the 70's and 80's.
Funny thing is that both 'West', and 'John Player Special' is owned by larger company, 'Imperial'. Could this similar colouring be a way to sublimily advertise 'John Player Special' as well? |

As far as the debate about advertising cigarettes is concerned, I think it is immoral for governments and lawmakers to prohibit the advertising of a product that is legal to produce and sell. People make their own decisions of their own volition.
Governments tax the cigarette products heaps so that money could be used to provide for the health care needs of the smokers, but to ban advertising of a legal product is b/s. if it's that bad bite the bullet and ban the manufacture and legal sale of the product. If you can't because of the tax benefits and public outcry then face the truth. People choose to smoke for their own reasons. |

Perhaps that's something you could discuss in Parc Ferme.

Hi all...
we are well into August and no sign of the new proposed JW livery for McLaren or the tobacco sponsorship ban from July 2005. Plus other teams' new non-tobacco liveries. Have I missed something? Cheers Peter |

McLaren were never planning to run a Johnny Walker livery.
It is a smaller, secondary sponsor. They have dropped the West cigarette branding though. |

Have McLaren changed their name from "West McLaren Mercedes" now?

The teams have just taken their non-tobacco stuff a step further - quite cheeky and most confusing. They may be using a different font for the drivers' names, but everyone still knows what used to be there.

In the past there have been cases of teams getting a new main sponsor after the start of the season. They had to race the rest of the season with their original name. However, this might be a different situation. Maybe they already filed a new name when they sent their application for the current season (which might have been any time between 1 march 2003 and 15 november 2004). |
