Cheering for Ford here. I have not typically rooted for Ford in IMSA races but in WEC I'm behind them for sure. |

I can't say that I really enjoyed LMP2 back when you were just waiting to see who would be the last one standing, or the last one to break down. The main point of interest, in the periods when it happened, was how the P675/2 cars were doing relative to the P900/1 cars when the smaller machines could give them a run for it on pace.
I suspect you may be frustrated tomorrow with P2s caught in the middle and fouling up the GTE fight, or making dive-bomb moves to get by GTs, and taking one or two of them out in the process. Mexico City may be the most clear-cut example of a new or modified circuit done for F1 that really works ONLY for F1. I'm not sure how good of a race even the current Indy Cars can put on here. (Speaking of IndyCar, for a track that 's almost the same length as Austin, the Indy Cars are already lapping Watkins Glen nearly 20 mph faster than the pole mark set by F1 at CotA.) As another example of how much the Mexico City circuit has changed, the LMP2s have yet to lap as quickly (in mph) as the Group 7 cars lapped the original 3.107-mile course back in 1968 for the 1000km USRRC event. (The 1968 Can-Am Group 7 cars would have been even faster.) |

Didn't the Group 7 cars have about 300hp on the P2 cars?

No turbo p2 cars really hurts their performance. Next year they should be a good deal faster thankfully.

No, Matt, you're thinking of Can-Am. That 1968 USRRC race had a fleet of Lola T70 Mk. IIs and Mk. IIIs with a mix of Ford and Chevy engines, a couple McLaren M6Bs, a McLaren-Elva Mk. III, a Caldwell D7B, and a squadron of Porsche 906s at the back. Power output for most would have been 440-500 hp. Maybe a few would have been running 500-520 hp. So, no, not an overwhelming amount compared to current LMP2s. (The front-running Can-Am cars would have been pushing 600-700 hp in 1968.)

Also, old Mexico City had a lot of much faster corners, the Baseball Stadium will kill average lap speeds.

Yes, but my original comment was to note how much the track had changed.
Compared to when the WSC ran there in 1989-91, the USRRC was running the original Espiral corner (Turn 1), as well as the full length of the Horquilla hairpin (then Turn 5, now outside of Turn 6). The biggest changes though have come with the new F1 reconfiguration. Even when CART/ChampCar ran into and out of the stadium, the rest of the track was as F1 and the WSC had used when they ran there before. The new-for-2015 GP layout re-profiled EVERY corner except for the second half of Peraltada. The Turn 1-3 and 4-5 complexes are much tighter. The Turn 6 hairpin is tighter. Every one of the Esses has been made more abrupt, and therefore, in effect, tighter. And they've added that extra heart-monitor blip thing in the stadium for F1. So, up until about two years ago, most of the original course was still intact. Now, only those three main straightaways and the Peraltada are left. |

Aston on pole and Ford last in class. That's the wrong way around.

And the commentary just started working, so it was only video for a while.

Audi with 1:24's and Toyota already a second and a half back. Not going to be their weekend, maybe rain will help.

A smoking CLM.
e. I had already forgotten what a dull track this is. The esses are the only thing worth mentioning and those are ruined by tarmac run-off areas. Red flag for Lapierre in the barries. And he continues almost immediately. Was this really necessary? Last edited by TzeiTzei; 2 Sep 2016 at 19:59. |

Hard to judge with so few cars, but it looks like 5 seconds could easily be lost through the stadium.
#8 pole, cracking laps from Duval in particular. RGR get their dream pole in LMP2. |

Is Turn 7 proving to be a particular trouble spot?
(I know it was tripping people up over the weekend for last year's Mexican GP; Vettel REALLY didn't like that corner by the end of the race.) |

It's going to be a struggle to watch tomorrow since I can't get FS2 or the GO app. Maybe vipbox will have the motors tv feed.

Why do WEC find it so hard to give the correct start times.
On the app, it lists the official start time as local, 11:30am. On the website, it lists the official start time as local 1:30pm |
