Ian Briggs should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
As allready commented it appears to be an "interesting" year so far. From my view out of the Island Box I can only add to the comments on Marshalling standards, the two big incidents we had were dealt with textbook action. Chris and the guys got the Karter (ist?) stable and kept the other Karts away from Chris's bum which was sticking out onto the track.......
The Morgan really gave the tyres a whack, and shifted a lot of truck tyres and the earth behind them, interesting demonstration by Marshalgirl of the "Soak and scrape" school, of oil dressing!
In amongst the 7 red flags, there was even some good racing, the Mini 7s being the pick.

I've been asked to write a piece on marshalling for an online PC racing magazine (long story!) and i'm planning to use our exploits from Monday as the topic. If anyone has any photos of marshals in action during the mini incident, if you could PM me that would be great. If not i'll ask some of our photographic friends for some "stock" pictures. Of course i'll be adding some links to the various marshals websites and 10ths too

The magazine is http://www.autosimsport.net/

If you go onto the BMMC website you'll find Chris Jones getting an award for marshal of the day - well done Chris http://www.marshals.co.uk/north.php

Yes, you've had some "big-ones" this year, but be honest...... we all have the same training (Karts,HillClimbs,Sprints, Circuits) and I'd like to think that all "other" Marshal's would have done just as good a job.

You're kidding! There wasn't any beer, for which Margaret apologised. (This was an HQ meeting rather than NW).

In fact, it has to be said that - with the exception of Margaret and Ray - the BARC Senior Officials were a bloody miserable lot! Looked like they had the whole World upon their shoulders and made me feel as welcome as a fart in a space-suit! .

(Can we have a "Fart In Space-Suit" Smillie please?)

If so, then feel free to tell "Them" the Truth.

can't bothered to "edit" this to read right, get it or go away................... not bothered either way. Far Too many people having a go at each other for my taste. Are You a Volunteer Marshal (in whatever colour overalls) or What????? We are all supposed to be equal and just as bad (or good) as each other.

No One is any better than anyone else, as a Volunteer, anyone who says different......................... See Yaa!!!!

yes we did get a beer and my god did we all need it, poor kenny webb ended up with a rsi from all the blinkin reports he had to right.
yes mark, some of the officials did look a bit moody but can you blame them with the day they were lookin after! sounds daft but on reflection i really enjoyed the day. some good racin (inbetween red flags), some crackin company on post and even though it was hard work i went home feeling good as i had helped out, well worth doing.

as a quick other point. i know why on the following post it was said what ever discipline we do we are treined the same but i agree with the other guys about oulton marshals. iam sure other circuits say the same as they are the guys and girls you see every weekend gettin stuck in and they are the peeps who you know will do a great job.(not that any other marshals wouldnt)

Those that know me, know I marshal at various circuits and I have done more meets at Donington and Anglesey than at Oulton this year so far, I have worked with some super people and never had a bad crew anywhere, my comment was slightly tongue in cheek because if you dont blow your own trumpet who will? ALL marshals do a fantastic job because we love the sport and want to do our best whatever the situation, I just feel especially proud to be a part of the crew that have dealt with some horrendous incidents at Oulton Park this year. Great work guys, see you all on the 21st!

I meant before the racing.......sign-on time! They were very po-faced! And my comments were tongue firmly in cheek!

I'm proud to be a (Oulton, Donington, Anglesey, Silverstone, Castle Combe, Mallory, Cadwell) Marshal, but can see where Stuart is coming from.......even if his method of expressing it is a little abrupt! But Stuart tells it how it is and I don't have a problem with it.

Marshal of the day awards.......not really neccessary (Is it a one-off?) but a nice gesture I guess and Chris was very deserving.

yer i understand what Stuart is getting at, but its the first time ever i've known a team or individual to be singled out for an "award" of any type on the day. The page Nadine linked to clearly states the award was from one of the Formula Renault drivers, not BARC or anyone else. Thats a really nice gesture considering they probably only got 3 racing laps in between the 3 red flags!!!

I was on Chris's team and don't feel one little bit left out. We all worked together and although drivers were injured during the day, the actions of ALL OF US helped ensure they were kept to a minimum. If people want to acknowledge that with awards then fine, but i'm happy just knowing we did a damn fine job and everyone will live to race another day

The person I signed on with was his usual happy self...but I didn't have to go back & ask to be reminded what time the briefing was!

Just for clarification.......the "Usual" Signing on folks (aka Mike, Andy, Walter, Nadine) were fine.......the "Shirts" were a little miserable!

Maybe to do with us all being squashed into scrutineering bay! As the instructions were sent with this information Margaret and I decided to stick with it rather than upset all the incident marshals by asking them to move to Chequers (normal location!). We managed but not without the scowls of the scrutineers who thought we were encroaching on their space (sorry but 8 sheets for marshals sign on has to go somewhere!). Next time we will make sure we are back in Chequers for sign on. TOCA should be the only exception but then we shouldn't need to be fighting the scrutineers for space then!
