I've got to say i think that made everyone proud to be a marshal. I thought the report was well done and also Julia explaining that we are volunteers and without us the race couldnt go ahead might explain alot more to spectators!
Also the guys who had starring roles, you were fab and Hunter great too, tho calling us a special breed and saying that he would run away from it whereas we run to it, did make me giggle for a while! |

I still have the aftermath pics of the shell on my phone and Jacob Ebray's photo of Hunter upside down with his visor open totaly engulfed in fire. Just went through all the emotions of that day again. Was a privelidge to be on that post that day. A day I will never forget. Well done to the production team for a superb portrail of an awesome event. |

Well done to John and Phil, you both came across really well in the interviews.
I can't believe that was in March, I still vividly remember the day. I thought at the time that the Lambo shunt was big enough! Proud to be an OP Marshal |

I was expecting a really sensationalist, inaccurate report. Instead, I was very impressed with how the TV company approached the whole thing. I thought Phil and John were excellant.
Although I had seen the footage on YouTube, I didn't realise how alight Hunter was. Well done to all involved, both on the day and in making the TV programme. |

There is something about that incident which still concerns me and that is spectator safety at this area of Oulton Park. Almost level with the point of impact of the Ginetta, you can clearly see a couple with a toddler and a buggy by the wire fence.
Considering the amount disintegration of the car I was amazed that they appeared unscathed. I dread to think what could have happened if the impact point had been a few yards earlier. The MSA seem hell bent on cocooning the marshals in yards of chain link even though they are probably better prepared for possible incidents than most. What about the spectators? That stretch of the avenue was out of bounds for many years and given over to growing crops at times. Mmm I feel a letter coming on......Dear Mr/Dr....... |

Excellent program and very accurate account of what happened. Motorsport is dangerous as it states on the tickets. Spectators, Marshals and drivers are all aware of that. When an incident as fierce as that happens and nobody is hurt, just goes to show Safety is not overlooked in anyway. Dont helicopters Land in the field on the Avenue where spectators can freely roam???.

Very big pats on the back to all who went to the incident! Still get a sicky feeling when I think about it too much!
Does make you very proud to be a marshal! And an Oulton regular to boot! |

Big well done also to Jan Gower who ensured that the BBC picked up on this in the first place - this and ITV filming the fire training at BTCC all helps |

Caught it again last night and they had an incident at Sentul where 2 F3 cars collided and one ended up on its side pinned against the barrier. The driver of the 2nd car went to help the other one out when it exploded in to flames.
The marshals just stood there not having a clue what to do, inappropriately dressed and not a single extinguisher in sight. Think it was in 2006, Sentul is an international circuit and has held A1GP races so i was somewhat astonished by their very unorganised approach to marshalling, or at least thats how it seemed. Car was a complete loss as there were no means to put the fire out until it was far too late, just a good job the driver helped get him out really.... |

Dee and I watched that last night, there were many very short words used. the car was still a burning mass 20 minutes later. I can't think of a situation in recent years where a car has been allowed to burn for more than a few minutes in the UK. That was a F3 race too so not a small meet. Luckily they focussed on the Driver who helped him out rather than the lack of Marshals.

Last one I can think of is the Viper of Richard Dean. That was quite big.
Yep, Ben did what he didn't have to do, also I think he was given an award for it. |

Only just caught up with this thread. I missed he GT incident and it's no longer on iplayer. Anyone download it that can send it to me please?
I saw the F3 on with James Winlow helping another driver, I agree with Dan, why was no-one putting out the fire? No sight of any bottles. |

That driver was extremely lucky that James Winlow stopped as I don't think he would have got out alive otherwise. A good reminder to us all to do it right. Dave |
