Which is what I'm saying, they have these LMP racers that look nothing like real cars. Which is what I think they should do. But weve been there. Wish it was still there.

How would cars like these be any more expensive than LMP's to run? A tube frame, cheaper, alittle hevier, but may even be safer in a real bad crash. Allow engine regs for production and production modified engines for LMP 1/2 aswell as the weights.

I think it'd be a good formula while still maintaining relevancy and some recognition to road cars. They'd pretty much just be race supercars, which alot of companies already make. Independant chasis manufactuers (Lola, etc.) can still build and sell cars for privateers and engines can either be purchased from the factory or a tuner.

The problem is that you can't really create a working ruleset for this kind of cars. The P4/5 and the 918RSR look the way they do because the owner or the company wants them to have a bit of a retro-look. But you can't really put "has to look retro" into the ruleset, because how would you measure that? And when you can't control that, you have quite possibly a class of one-off specials with bodywork completely unrelated to any road model. Without any roadcar specs to adhere to, you can pretty much built anything you want and ultimately you'll not end up with 70s-retro-style cars, but something pretty much like late-90s GT1s or perhaps even something that would be more or less like an LMP.

Remember when Grand Am introduced the DPs, their idea was "Less GTP more Ford GT" - and I think they would have looked actually pretty good that way - but the builders didn't comply with GA's wishes and went as GTP as possible while still adhering to the rules - and we know how that ended.

I'd rather they made them 'homologated specials' like the late 90's GT1's. Or have em look like SuperGT type cars. Engines used in SuperGT (honda toyota) will be in LeMans anyway! In a different form, but basically the same engine.

Since your last quote this car has come even closer to resembling a prototype... now known as the P 4/5 Competizione Modificata, it sports a centrally mounted roof intake, LMP style big honking fin, redisgned diffuser, larger rear wing and F1 style KERS

The KERS system, designed by Magnetti Marelli, uses air cooled batteries and liquid cooled KERS motor and inverter... the team is currently working with the FIA to homologate their system for race use

The driver lineup for this season will be:
Fabrizio Giovanardi
Nicola Larini
Manuel Lauck
