Roger i found almost impossible to get on terms with, that car was so quick and quite able to see off some of the 4wd cars. Tony at the time was still running the mini so was not quite as quick but was still as difficult. It didn't help that i only had the 2Lt engine for one meeting and had to use a 1700 engine for the rest of the time i had the car. Another fiesta related image with the 4wd version of mike jennings |

Dave
I seem to remember Mike was quite an ingenious uy with that Fiesta. And also an ex autograser like Roger. He ran it 4wd didnt he? Then later on ran an RS200 lump in it? I cant help thinking that with the right development that car cold have been a missile, in those days smaller engined cars could run much lighter (the reason why Alamaki and Seppo sleeved down their 205 engines) so could easily compete with the evo cars. INdeed Rolf Nilsson was pretty quick in a 1.8 RS200 in 88 I recall. Roger's car I thnk was a bit unfair now, so totally on the lones of the regs! |

Mike was as you say ingenious with his 4wd car it was good to see how close he got at times to the big budget guy's , i don't know how his system worked but it was very effective.
Here's another heat from the gp, with myself, geoff reynolds, ross browning, barry wilmot, not sure who the other is on the start line |

Will and Renny in 6R4 and RS200, is that the red roof of Hoppy`s first RS200 in front of the rover, 71 John Hay in the Turbo RWD Escort (Blue), John Smith in the ex schanche XTRAC Escort. The good old days when Brands had a proper covered Grandstand..... |

Pic is from the 1987 GP. IIRC Andy Bentza did not drive the ERC nor his Austrian home series that year. Possibly the GP only before he quit RX.

Yes I think the blue/yellow Fiesta is Jason Stone. I mentioned him earlier in the thread, he went onto a Escort Cosworth. Yes the others are Barry Wilmott and Mike Manning
Mind you was the Fiesta a 1600cc ? The same for Stu Banks ? Was it a 1600cc or 2 litre and what is the horrible wing on the roof ? |

Just realised the earlier link I posted actually has the Dave Ling Fiesta on it, complete with his bonnet coming up. http://www.rallycrosstube.com/video/...tch-Qualifying Last edited by MiniMadness; 5 Mar 2011 at 22:46. |

Only just picked up on this.
Graham Hathaway ran a 2.0 litre BDG, Mk1 for about a season. It had about 280 bhp and was built by David Rowe of Blue Line. It had an AF100 Ford gearbox, which was a major weak point, regularly throwing itself apart. It was practiced for the 1982 Rallyx GP at Brands, but did not race. (it was taken home that evening for the usual repairs, but a road accident damaged the tow car and trailer, which just about said it all about the car.) Graham stayed with MK1 Fiesta but went into the Fiesta Credit circuit series, moving on to a Mk2, coming second in the 1985 series. Escort RST and Sierra Cosworth followed until he returned to RallyX with the RS200 Barry Hathaway had his 1600 for some time but moved on to the 6R4 and yes, is still racing in Autograss. Ian Thompson had his 1600 for a while also, but it was always a bit of pain, mainly down to the cost of it all. |

Am I right in saying Graham Hathaway was sponsored by British Telecom in both the Fiesta and the Mk2 Escort before that.
