On a site note: Seems like B-GT is becoming more of the kit car series of yore again (and I mean this in the best possible way) with national homologation for the Ginetta G55 and soon also the Chevron GR8.

Especially the latter is a pretty neat car in my opinion.

Just saw highlights of the Nurburgring race, enjoyable stuff with close racing through the field.

Likewise good racing throughout, a bit strange seeing it at the Nurburgring but seemed to work anyway. Special mention to Jann Mardenborough, really impressed with him. To make the step he has is quite something, he's exciting to watch as well and when interviewed handled himself well for somebody so young. When you compare British GT to a certain other televised British race series (as put by somebody else earlier in this thread) the driving standards are light years ahead. It really should have a higher profile in the UK than it does.

I've been very impressed too, I knew about him and the program he came through as he has appeared on a motorsports podcast I listened but until I saw him drive, I didn't appreciate his competence behind the wheel. I do like how he makes that brute of a Nissam move around. Exciting stuff even if it's GT3. I still have a feeling the BoP may become an issue sooner or later, the Merc has really struggled so far hasn't it?

You've said exactly what I thought as I was watching! A couple of times, we had cars running very close but not a hint of a tap from behind to send someone offline to get past. Very clean. As for the other series, well, each to their own I guess.

New to the whole British GT, is there an official Youtube channel for the series?

Brands Hatch GP Circuit this weekend.

I'll be there for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon but all being well the whole day on Sunday.

Looks like it could be a tad wet on the Sunday - it tipped down last year, there was some brave driving out in the woods...

if you're in the UK, which I'm guessing you are, you're in luck - channel 4's youtube (4oD) has this season's events up for your viewing pleasure. If you have a TV license of course..........

Just got back from the Brands Hatch race - it must have been the closest finish ever in BGT.

I was amazed to see that MTech brought a spare car, they must have a huge budget...

Looked almost as good just being able only to watch it on the live timing.

The Ginetta G55's were the best sounding cars out there. (Luke Hines did a great stint). The BMW sounded good as did the Jones's Merc but nothing clattered on the over-run quite like the GT3 Ginettas.

The 458's sounded very subdued - I guess they are running the 'stock' exhausts & they are a bit tame. I recall when the International GT Open visited Brands last year, only one or two of the Ferrari's sounded like a Ferrari should!

I can imagine - I followed the Britcar 24 hour race on the TSL timing the other year (when Gamski/Robinson won) - watching the gap closing down becomes quite hypnotic!

Brilliant finish to that race - 0.022 seconds between 1st & 2nd after 2hrs and 3rd only 2 seconds further back. First win for Nissan and Jann Mardenborough drove brilliantly for a rookie - I thought I heard that they changed tyres during the pit stop so how much of his performance was due to the extra grip (did any of the other top three change theirs?).

I think MTech have always had a second/spare car - they certainly ran 2 458s at Donington last year.

Yes, last year they **ran** 2 cars (once the second 458 became available -driven by Julian Draper) - this year they've got 2 cars and one is a 'spare' car. I'm sure there are no rules against it but if this becomes normal, the cost of being at the front end of this championship will increase... with all the things that go with that.

it was a very entertaining race, lots of battles etc, i was on the gp loop at the end, was listening to the tannoy on my phones radio, wouldn't have known the race was such a close finish otherwise!, i thought it was 0.220 not 0.022, great stuff

that Nissan Juke safety car seems very sorted! made a lot of induction noise under acceleration

does anyone know which one of the cars was putting out the fuel vapour smell? it was like a very pungent diesel smell, i couldnt place which car it was coming from

i will post a link to the photos i took later on, once ive sorted them out

I think the Ferraris that howled at the GT open were the GT2 cars rather than the GT3s. Back to this weekend and I have to say I couldn't disagree more about the sound of the Mercedes - it sounded awful, it constantly sounds like it's got an engine problem (I know it hasn't - all those Mercs sound like that) - dreadful noise. All good fun though and I had a rather pleasant wander round the GP loop - the cars really can stretch their legs around there Hopefully I'll be able to make the GT open in a few weeks - for some reason I seem to be getting more into this GT racing lark these days (maybe because the BTCC is so cringeworthy now?).

I thought that was one of the Ginettas - one of them was trailing a cloud of smoke in the closing stages.

Agree on the Ginetta trailing smoke - number 69 Osborne/May if I remember correctly.

Mtech have 2 cars because when they originaly purchased them they running both British GT and 2 cars in the FIA GT3. I think the plan for this season was to have 2 cars out in British GT/ Blancpain but only had funding for 1 because they are planning to move to GTE for next season.

I still remember when the team started in 2006.

Something I'd forgotten about was raised on the Marshal's section - did they retrieve the Hetherington Nissan's bonnet from its resting place?
