Viper GTE engine is very much so a much detuned GT1 engine. Which, now at 8.4 liters, is basically the same as the road Viper engine. The 8.3 and 8.4 are capacity bumped and "modernized" versions of the old 8 liter, and share the same basic design and architecture.
And much like the Corvette and F458, the Viper makes significantly less power in race trim than the road car does. |

The 5.5L displacement limit is stupid.

It's an annoying arbitrary number that they don't pay any attention to any ways.
I know everyone loves the racing in GTE,GTLM,GT2 whatever but I think the rules need a serious re-set it's becoming GT3 and thats a big turn off for me. |

I don't, not even at Le Mans the previous weekend. Because I know it's not for real anymore, hasn't been for few years now after they started copycatting GT3. And if what I see on screen screams 'FAKE' it doesn't matter how good those boobs... err wheel to wheel racing might look like. They might all just well be (in theory) identical Porsche Cup cars with NASCAR manufacturer-specific bodywork on top.

How is the racing fake? Just because cars are equalised in a fashion thats unpopular with some fans that makes it fake? I rather watch this fakery than 15 ferraris run around.

If DRS passing is fake, so is Aston Martin Vantage GTE with it's ancient engine passing Ferrari 458 in pure straight line speed.

Sorry, thats crappy reasoning. Bop rage doesnt mean the racing is fake. Rule makers will have to step in soon with change, but you either keep the current players somewhat happy or you have no race.

Well sorry to you too but if the performance I see on track seems to have pretty much nothing to do with the real cabalities of the manufacturer/car in question, it is fake for me. With LMP1 and LMP2 I truly believe what I see. With old GT classes too, yes you had some minor adjusting few times a season but generally you had the two strongest cars of Aston & Corvette wiping the floors in GT1 and Ferrari & Porsche in GT2, with other weaker cars merely showing occassional glimpses of glory. With GTE I know the old underpowered Vantage is literally only dominating because of it's gigantic performance breaks, I know Z4(/M3 touring car) shouldn't even be on the same league as the other models, I know that and that part is not really legal but is now for some reason, etc etc. When puzzle is orchestrated so carefully for expected outcome it is fake. Or rather, show.
Of course they now have to keep everyone happy all the time because it's all gone so far already that they can't suddenly change the tone. |

The racing (in GTE) might be fake, at least the crying for BoP breaks is genuine!

Unfortunately the BoP is a necessary evil. Without it, there really only becomes one solution that performs best as the rules are set out, and not toyed with. You likely end up with a field full of one type of car, and maybe one other factory team. It is the BoP that has attracted all of the manufacturers to the table.
The category may not say much about the quality of the car, or the road car, but it is some pretty intense racing. |

Then again it is 'intense' in LMPC too, technically speaking...
Anyway my stock response for Fogel's comment is http://tentenths.com/forum/showpost....postcount=4528 as per my signature too Last edited by Deleted; 25 Jun 2014 at 14:54. |

Oh, I don't disagree that constant tinkering is ridiculous. BoP overall is necessary, but leave things alone once it's close. Then again, I've kind of stopped following the series, except for the chatter, so it doesn't really bother me now.

Hmm, and here I thought this thread was about the upcoming race in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Silly me!

After ALMS died it's been the same for me (I miss the special atmosphere and pure NA tracks ) however with GTE still being active in Le Mans and GT3 messing up other events it means I still have to endure them

I agree and thats why I really can't stand tusc. The Glen really is the ony thingn left I have intrest in and thats just because its been so long since sportscar ran there. As for the BOP the champion is not who designs and builds the best car its the team who has the best politicians Last edited by Gulf; 25 Jun 2014 at 17:24. |

I doubt it, both Vipers will probably be the Oreca red and white from the 2000 ALMS season. But I do believe that both will have Pennzoil as an associate sponsor.
I also never realized that the Viper's headlights are part of the engine cover instead of the front clip as on the Corvette. |

You know as much dislike I might have for those current Vipers and the class they are part of, bringing that retro livery is awesome. It was always one of my alltime favourite paint schemes. And purely looks wise that chassis is the best of the bunch anyway so it's a win-win.

It is weird that of all to be excited about going into the 6 hours, I think the red vipers are tops on the list! not the racing, or strategy, but the red vipers!

Sounds like a typical nascar race all the "excitement" is about the paint schemes not the cars, racing or strategy. #thefuture
