In my defence, the bottle was only 50p for a litre and I didn't spot the small print until later.

OK chaps. If anyone wants to visit a local vintner to buy some Coteaux du Loir or Jasnieres on Friday morning I'm happy to be the guide. I would want to be back to see at least some of the madness in the afternoon and the driver's parade in the evening.
Anyone interested? FG |

How far away is it FG1. We're supposed to be at Indianapolis corner for a water fight with Larry Le Mans group and The TW*TS at 13:00 and then a game of footie at Houx Annexe at 15:00.
I'd love to go time permitting. Also, when will you be arriving?? I have just been told our company has a trade stand at a show in Paris on the 11th and 12th so I am toying with coming over on the Monday, down to Le Mans for the night and then drive/train to Paris for the show on the 11th then back again. |

This is a thread about Le Mans. Le Mans is in France (the last time I looked, anyway) When in France, we enjoy French wines. Simple (and highly relevant) connection, IMO. |

I am driving down Thursday in time to see the night practice Thursday evening. Time will be tight, but if we met early Friday morning, say between 10-11am, we could get in at least one, possibly two vinters before lunch. These things should not to be rushed, but in the circumstances we would just have to move it along.
One has to buy the wine in boxes of (at least) six bottles, and the wine is not the cheapest. Expect to pay between 4-8 euros a bottle. On the plus side this sort of wine just can't be bought in the UK. If you do find the odd bottle in will be between £15-£20 a bottle. FG |

FG, I would be happy to head off at an earler time on Friday, perhaps 9.00 if necessary to make the trip worthwhile. And if I miss the water fight...hey, much as it would be fun, it would not be a unique experience like this. And to buy wines of this quality for only 4-8 Euros per bottle I am sure that I will not be the only one in our group who wil join us!!

Hmm, 9 may be a bit early even for me. What would the reaction be to a 10:00 meet at say Le Grand Luce?

Take the Paris direction on the dual carriageway past the airport. Take the exit after the Tours (Mulsanne straight) exit which will be signed D304 it goes to LM (Pontlieu) one way and le Grand-Luce the other. Please buy a decent map (Michelin 1/200,000 atlas is fine) before you come to France! |

I would say it's about 15 minutes drive from the circuit. It's on the way to the vinters I'm thinking of and near my house so it's an ideal meeting place. Once on the D304 you go through Parigne L'Eveque, and Le Grand Luce is the next town after that. As you approach the town you will need to turn right for "Le Grand Luce, Centre Ville" as the D304 by-passes the centre. There are permanent road works in Le Grand Luce, so you may be briefly diverted. We could meet in the square near the church. FG |

Unfortunately the Tourists won't have reached Le Grand Luce by the time of your meet (and drink). But we will be there later......

What's the hell of that!
We are speaking about good spots for wine at LM and I'm not adviced. I probably spend too much time on CA and its beer conversations. Some good places in centre-ville to buy good wine. I could even suggest to some of you, after our (just because you can't make this friday trip with out me) Friday morning vine crawl a nice lunch in a Wine bar just 300 metres from the Jacobins Square where the afternoon drivers parade start. it's a nice place where you can drink and/or buy wine and eat as well some simple but delightful meals. There's also a more sophisticated wine bar and restaurant 200 metres away, which is run by the president of the local Chamber of Commerce. This guy operates an "Epicerie Fine" and it's the ULTIMATE place to find prestigious bottles, but also wonderful chocolate. And 50m away on the other side of the Place de la République, there's a Nicolas store. Nicolas is a chain of wine shops, where you can make some interesting discoveries at sweet prices, and it's my official Champagne provider since I dedicated my life to Bollinger Grande Annee. These three places are the places located in the city centre but I also can give you other adresses, probably not so interesting, except for bag-in-box liquids. Gilles |

Yes, probably. That's one of the reasons I came here. A certain additional sophistication..... In other words, going to Le Mans means a great deal more than getting as drunk as you possibly can for as long as you possible can......... |

I'm totally agree with you, but the CA members also get lost discovering Le Mans and they always ask for help.
That's probably my vocation on Earth: help English-speaking people to attend to Le Mans! |
