Thanks Tim, there was talk of another fuel being used so that was why I was not sure.

I heard that to, but according to those at dinner on Sunday night the talk was as if Lyndon would be back with the fuel.

Brett and Lyndon were both in close proximity to us in the the room and would have definately heard what was said, and I presume would have set the record straight.

There is supposed to be a new sponsor and it is supposedly tax payer money. Don't know about Shell but i heard it was going to another Ford team, unofficially.

GTR, got to agree with you on Luff's appointment. DJR need drivers who are 'race winners' and I am not sure that Luff is in that category. His drive at Bathurst in the Konica race was good, but mistake ridden in the final laps.

Amazingly, Bathurst can sometimes flatter some rookies - Dumbrell from 2002 being a prime example.

For me, 'Not So' would have been a better choice. A proven race winner. But then, probably $400k more expensive than Luff. $400k does a bit of development.

DJR needs drivers to lead it out of the woods with strong technical abilities. I am not sure Luff is this driver.

I hope for DJR's sake Luff proves me wrong.

It'll be interesting. Luff has been a champion in everything that he has ever raced, so he obviously has some form of talent...

Good question Crash, i thought Luffy could have benefited from a season in the Konicas but ahh well, such is life...

Having had Luffy as an instructor in my car a few years ago when i got my CAMS licence i can assure you the guy is a psycho !!
He drove the wheels off everything he got into, and has no doubt got an incredible amount of raw talent...

I would have loved to have seen him step into an already quick car though, i'm not sure the DJR cars are quite at that stage yet...

Cheers,
Paul....

Owen Kelly is the tip, alongside Jose Fernandez.

Why DJR is a better bet in Konica than PCR's ex-Stone Bros equipment is beyond me though

BTW- this time last year it was a cert that DJR would lose Shell to be replaced by BP. I'd prefer to believe ot when I see it rather than all of this speculation BS...

Speculation or not - this time last year the team was still called Shell Helix Racing and media releases coming from the team were still referrig to it as Shell Helix Racing.

The team is currently being called Dick Johnson Racing and media releases are referring to it as Dick Johnson Racing.

That much is not speculation.

Yeah, but really what's it worth?

The PR subject says "LUFF JOINS SHELL HELIX RACING"
and the first two pars read-

"Talented young Sydneysider Warren Luff has been signed by Dick Johnson's Shell Helix Racing team to contest the 2004 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

Luff will drive the number 18 Shell Helix Racing Ford Falcon alongside regular Steve Johnson, after a series of outstanding co-driving and Konica series performances this season."

Not quite in denial of Shell Helix really? If it said Warren Luff will be driving the BP-VB-mobile, i'd start to clutch at straws...

Granted - I missed that one - howver if you look at all the releases that came out prior to and during Eastern Creek, they all referred to DJR, not SHR..

DJR / SHR use two different templates for releases.

One for SHR (the main game) and one for DJR (Konica and in-house stuff)

I wouldn't read too much into it.

Imagine I am GTRSponsor with a lazy $1m to spend.

Am I going to want to put my GTRSponsor dollars behind another company's advertising, i.e. will I want to spend with Shell Helix Racing, or will I want to spend with Dick Johnson Racing?

Asking a sponsor to spend with another sponsor branded team doesnt sound all that sexy to me.

Same goes at BJR, they are known as Ozemail Racing by all and sundry, why would I want to spend the GTRsponsor dollars there if the team will still be known by the other company name?

Whereas if I sponsored DJR, and press releases came out as DJR releases and from DJR, any time DJR did any good (memory fuzzy here ) then the sponsor can say I sponsor DJR and look what they did.

I dont think it sounds quite the same as saying I sponsor Shell Helix Racing and look what they did... the first question someone will ask is whether your business is part of Shell or not, which may be counter productive....

Its semantics for sure, but some marketing strategists build the brand better than others, and the sponsors leverage off the team brand, and the team does likewise off the sponsor brand... like SHRT & Mobil.... SHRT is a brand in its own right, Mobil supports SHRT, so when SHRT win, Mobil win by association... and so do XBox, John Hart, Holden etc etc.... which wouldnt be the same if it was called Mobil Racing.
