Emmm, I can understand your bias but badmouthing DTM as a marketing show is ironic considering that all Sportscar championships have no clue on how to behave from a merketing point of view.
As for the old car thing I would really like to know how do you justify such a claim given the technical rules of the DTM. |

I think BMW might return to Le Mans with a Hydrogen powered car... that way they can showcase their Hydrogen technology, just like Audi did with the R10 this year.
If they win with Hydrogen, then it will prove to the public that Hydrogen driven cars are not slow nor impractical. It will be the best marketing stunt ever. |

Any truth to the report on mariantic.co.uk that BMW is pulling out of all US sportscar racing at the end of the season? Hoping my local bmw team isn't out of the support on their new e90 chassis with only half a season on them. Plus I was hoping BMW would be working on a Sauber-assisted P2 or M6 GT1 car(if it's eligible)

Can someone tell what is exactly in Autosport? PTG will stop receiving support form BMW America, but can continue racing, or they just stop next year with ALMS period. I saw rumors that PTG ordered 2 BMW Z4s. All very unclear to me

Anybody think this could lead to Z4 racers coming over to compete in either ALMS (GT2s maybe?) or Rolex GT or GS races? Would be cool to see how well the little car could hang with the higher power but higher weight cars in the GT classes. but this also seems like BMW might be trying to concentrate the money and research to build a good competitive Porsche beating program around the new M3, with the V8 torque to get through to tighter tracks better, or even better an M6 program to fill out the GT1 class with a little more cars. Here's to hoping Prodrive hears this and takes a little time out of the new F1 project to build a few 599 GT1 cars, or maybe even Ferrari build their own. also on the BMW front, anybody think this could hurt the only E90 raceteam in the US right now (my local BimmerWorld race team in speed touring cars) on the r&d front since it is the current body style, suppoedly the BIG reason for pulling out of PTG?

Here's another article (in German) with quotes from Robert Mitchell from BMW NA where he is saying that they aren't really ending the relationship with PTG but moving on to a new Phase. It remains to be seen what PTG will do next year. Perhaps race the E46 M3 with a V8.

According to Murphy the Bear, PTG looks to race the M3s in ALMS as privateer.

The Z4 M tested at Vallelunga last week, to solve problems and improve performance. The drivers was Quester, Muller and Claudia Hurtgen.
The first race should be the 24h Silverstone BRITCAR. source SportAutoMoto |

Even one of those BMWs in the field would be great.

The Duller Z4 M Coupe was on the track Friday qualifying for the Britcar 24 hours at Silverstone. It looks to have had the second fastest time. Of course, I have no way to judge how strong the other cars are.

Well, what a car. Wins a 24 hour race first time out. It did have a few problems, and at one point was 18 laps off the lead, but it was running 5 seconds a lap faster than anything else most of the time, and deserved to win. However, It felt a bit like Ferrari taking on a field of F3 cars with their F1 car. They just looked and performed in a different league to anything else.

Yep, a stunning debut. It suffered massive oil loss at one stage and Tim Mullen eventually had to bring it in about 9.00 pm Saturday evening to have an oil seal changed which caused many lost laps. To be fair, although it looked like a 'sledgehammer' to crack a nut, I don't think anyone expected it to be quite so quick first time out over 24 hours and it's main rival, the pole sitting Rollcentre Mosler had all sorts of problems from very early on. The Z4M driver line up was incredibly strong too, and Jamie Campbell-Walter's opening stint which took it into the lead and going away, after briefly dropping to 3rd at the start, was superb.

I was in the Mosler that was 2nd in night qualifying behind the BMW and followed it for a while. It was awesome, it drove like a single seater. It looked very light weight and could turn in really well. Quester was the slowest driver in the ream and even he was doing 2m00 - 2m03 all day long with the other 3 drivers doing between 1m57 - 1m59 lap after lap after lap....
They did really well to come back 15 laps down but they only had that one problem other than that it went like clock work. BMW works team or not they still won and well done. If anything it was good publicity for the 24 hour event for such a star line up to come and win. Maybe more big teams will come and make the event bigger and better. Does anyone have any nice pics of the No2 Mosler? Last edited by Redracer77; 11 Sep 2006 at 09:59. |

Red, great to hear a driver's view of all this, and yes, I think the presence of the BMW and the outcome might well raise the profile of the event. I have added a picture of No2 on the other thread.
