bella - thats a fun idea
recaro cup has 4 chassis - probably 5 next year (6 if you count the older dallaras) But BF3 may have 3 so perhaps thats the way to go Anyone read unfair advantage by mark donohue and PVanV? really bring home the reasons why drivers need good technical know how. Is it as hard to develop a Dallara as it is to develop a Ligier or Mygale? Do teams play it safe? Do drivers demand 'whatever won last year?' Should F3 calendars be synchronised so there are few clashes or do teams not care about 'away' races? With its own wind tunnel and F1 style base will Carlin build its own chassis? |

In this week's autosport Zetec racer Lucy Wardrop is planning a club Zetec series catering for around 20-24 cars. There is a possibility of joining UK FF at Brands and Silverstone during the year. Callum Macleod has switched from FBMW to FF with Jamun this year and Roger Orgee is doing CombeFF1600 with the aim of doing UKFF in 2008. Nice to see FBMW racers realising that FF is a better entry level formula.

bah, i don't like splitting threads because i think it destroys the natural evolution of the conversation. but yeah, i'll do something magic tomorrow.
sometimes with these things it's too difficult to pick conversations apart, but iirc it's fairly simple here. and anyway, what are you lot doing in here, i thought you didn't like primadonna spindlies |

Fiat and GTSport, the organizer of the Spanish Formula 3, announced today a partnership that will bring Abarth engines on all championship's cars. This year, due to lack of time, the field will run rebadged versions of the old Toyota engines, while in 2008 new units will be developed by Piedrafita Sport. The company is rumored to use as a starting base the Alfa Romeo Twin Spark 2 liters seen on the WTCC Alfa 156. Fiat's interest in the Spanish Formula 3 caught many by surprise, and is the preview of an huge forthcoming project. The idea is to start a South European Formula 3 champ in 2008, involving Spain (that will continue to have its own series), Greece, France, Portugal and Italy. An alternative to the F.3 Euro Series, dominated by Mercedes and focused on northern Europe. |

that sounds really interesting - wonder what teams / cars it will attract. Plus a new F3 motor. I assume that the new series will be for current FIA spec cars.

Bella, the prophet although she missed the Greece part
Seriously, it's an excellent idea and I am sure teams and drivers from Italy, Greece and Portugal will embrace it with open arms. We definatelly are very close in mendality, we love our motorsport and under the organisation of a serious promoter it could a big hit. Here's hoping |

formula ford cant be beaten for racing, and as a crowd pleaser.
a few top team bosses have said that FF is a great place to learn and a perfect first step out of karting. look at ADR, supposedly setting up a two car FF team along side their F3 team and running the spectrum chassis |

Ray have been producing cars every year. Last year Ray won at least 6 races I can think of in UK Formula Ford and won in FF1600. They were certainly more succesful than VD!

I think Van Diemen are going to struggle to achieve anything next year now that JLR have pulled the plug on Formula Ford. It would be a real shame if this was to be the case as VD have been a linchpin of Formula Ford for so long but it seems that since Comtec switched formulae VD have never quite achieved the same successes.
With the prize announced by Mygale this week of a subsidised F3 drive for the top Mygale driver in the championship this year I think everyone's going to be scrabbling for that chassis now. Hope the Ray cars perform like last year as it was fantastic to see a small manufacturer being so succesful and with Nick Tandy on board again I think they've got a real fighting chance. |
