Peter, I took a lot of photos of the marshals, and posted links to Google albums. These proved popular, so I am glad to see you catching a few. Maybe you could post on the marshals section?

Good set of pics again, Bob. Particularly the Corvair in post 736. Not a car you see racing much in the UK but probably a lot more in the US.
I also like the 1950s/1960s sports racers in post 737 but a lot I can't name so I thought I'd ask an expert what the silver car reg. no. XPA 748 is. Any ideas EB? |

As Chris is not up yet I am sure it is a Jaguar engined HWM.

Indeed Baub, some fine pics there. Love the sports cars but funnily enough recently watched a doco on TV about the Corvair. although that was more about the 4 door Interesting video here re the what I guess were like a homologation special Yenko Stinger Corvair US Racecars. About 6:15 is video of a race with about 30 of them racing on track together. https://youtu.be/L37cTyfQJ2I Edit: Sorry didnt notice 'young' Bob (RBS) beat me to it. I was watching the Corvair video I linked above and forgot to click submit Last edited by E.B; 4 Nov 2024 at 19:10. |

Great to see the marshalls either in action, resting or even eating icecreams. I never forget we would not have been able to race without them.

HWM, Hersham & Walton Motors, a garage run by John Heath and George Abecassis, first running two seater sports cars that could be used in single seater races., at least one was later fitted with an XK120 engine. Then they produced a team of genuine singe Formula 2 cars, competing all over Europe. Stirling Moss, Lance Macklin, and often a local driver was invited to drive to bump up Starting Money, as the whole thig was run o a shoestring budget.
They also made a few (not sure how many) Jaguar, engined cars such as the one in the Parade. All of this from memory, might need to check facts. |

Talking of interesting videos..... and one of Bobs lovely pics reminded me of it. I have always had an interest in Jim Tiller's orange 1950 Allard J2 he has owned for all but a couple of years of its life("The Old Fella" pictured above) and his exploits over the years.
One of which was when e took"The Old Fella" to Bonneville back in 2000 to try join the 200mph club. He had to cloth the J2 in an aero enclosed rear (to meet regs I think), but it was a really gutsy and low budget once in a lifetime, just Jim, his wife and a couple of mates, project. Jims lovely wife Sheila did a behind the scenes video of the project with her commentary telling the story.... from prearing the car, the shipping to the US and then all the trials and tribulations, the setbacks, the speed related qualifying process to allow you to even attempt 200mph, the challenges, the laughs and tears, a 720° 150 mph spin etc etc. Anyway this is that lovely home movie type video of a great adventure. https://youtu.be/ldh7DN1x1U8 Last edited by E.B; 6 Nov 2024 at 01:03. |
