Dijon - Results

The Dijon Motors Cup was a fantastic setting for the final round of the Boss GP championship. The weekend on the fast french track was intense. Below the results (top ten).

...
12.Hans Laub Worldseries by Renault (1st in Master Class)

Race 1 :

5. Salvatore De Plano Dallara - GP2
6. Florian Schnitzenbaumer Dallara - GP2
7. Christopher Brenier Panoz DP09B - Superleague Formula

8. Peter Milavec Panoz DP01 - Champcar
9. Christian Eicke Dallara - GP2
10.Wolfgang Jordan Dallara - GP2
11.Walter Steding Worldseries by Renault (1st in Masters Class)

Ingo Gerstl did an amazing time of 1'02"421 in the qualif, with an average speed of more than 219 kph ! But, due to a differential problem, he was not able to finish the race 1, and do not start in race 2. After two safety car, race 2 was stopped under red flag due to De Plano spin.
Zwart win easily both races and adds another title in his collection.
In Formula Class, two win for Smiechowski, weren't enough. For just one point, Ledermair is the 2015 Formula Class champion.
German driver Hans Laub is the Master Class champion for the third year in a row.

I see some cars now can use DRS, this is an interesting development.

Great to see those cars getting used as they should, hope the series makes a trip back to the UK soon. Is there any main reason why they don't have a round over here?

Unfortunately, there aren't many circuits that can take the BOSS cars. Silverstone and Donington are the only tracks with the prestige to bring the European competitors over and the safety requirements for the cars as far as I know.

There was scheduled to be a round at Brands Hatch GP back in 2012, but safety and noise prevented such things. Brands Hatch Indy is doable, but obviously BOSS would rather run on the full circuits. The organisers know fans and competitors from Britain would be interested, and they do try - I'd know, I always start asking at this point in the year!

Re: DRS. I'm fairly sure Ingo Gerstl installed DRS on his GP2 car in 2013 or 2014. To the best of my knowledge, there's never been any rule preventing use of things like DRS.

Brand Hatch does have the correct licence to run BOSS on both configurations and where do the "safety" issues come from; do you have anyone to quote? As for prestige does Donington have more than Brands?! I think NOT! Noise however is an issue at all circuits more so at Donington and Brands than Silverstone.

Ah yes, my apologies, I've looked back through my E-Mails and it wasn't on safety grounds, more costs. Apologies.

I didn't say Donington is more prestigious than Brands. Brands is my favourite circuit and I see it as far more prestigious, but when I wrote that post I seemed to think that GP only had a Grade 3 these days, which was of course wrong.

Sadly I doubt BOSS will come back to Britain anytime soon since it seems there aren't any tracks that don't have a noise issue.

I wonder if BOSS could go to the Circuit of Wales if that ever happens?

Apologies accepted Adam .

Circuit of Wales won't happen as I think you realise.

Agree I don't think BOSS will come to the UK anytime soon and to be honest i'm not sure how much interest seeing redundant "spec" cars race would create. Myself and Mr Mclurg as seen on this and the Euroboss thread always maintained the series should have kept the pre 97 cut off along with original liveries. Had this been implemented there would have been a far better and interesting series. As it stands there is really knowhere to run 1985-1997 F1/F3000/Indycars in a race series worldwide. To slow for BOSS full of modern GP2 cars etc and to new and fast for HSCC or Masters. It's ironic that at the Silverstone classic they run demo's for these cars now, my hunch is that if there were a series for them they'd run a race instead...........

Yes, I do believe an historic series for the pre-97 cars will happen at some point, hopefully relatively soon.

As for the cars in BOSS right now, I have a bit of a soft spot for GP2 machinery for some reason. The grids st Dijon were highly promising and I'm hoping it's a sign of a good 2016.

Either way, I'm very positive for 2016 as a whole, and I'm hoping to finally see BOSS in person again

Bossman Christian has sent me a PM; i've invited him to carry on the conversation here as this is a "forum" and just sending PMs to each other rather defeats the point of it! I think if he decides to post on the board again he should be welcomed as his updates were and would be welcomed. Over to you Christian.........

BOSS GP 2016

Here is the provisional calendar for next year Boss GP :

16 & 17 April
Hockenheim Historic - Hockenheim GP

14 & 15 May
Rundstrecken Trophy - Red-Bull-Ring

18 & 19 June
Historic Trophy - Nurburgring GP

2 & 3 July
Coppa Italia & Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 - Monza

6 & 7 August
GAMMA Racing Day - Assen

10 & 11 September
Masaryk Racing Days - Brno

8 & 9 October
BOSS GP Super Prix - Imola

A beautiful calendar overall, even if I'm sad to not see any race in France. Regarding the race in UK, the points in the thread above are the explanation I think. Personaly I would be great if the Boss could run in Silverstone.

Also, a few news about the championship :

According to Speed Center website, Master Class champion Hans Laub will race a Forti Corse Formula One next year
It seems that team Top Speed will put a second F1 (Toro Rosso???) on track
Some of the Master Class drivers want to move to the Formula Class and are interested by 2015 new entrants, the Superleague Formula cars

What ever happened to these cars? Are they owned by one group (or executor?) or did they end up on the 'used race car market'?

All the cars are now owned by a private investor. The cars which run in Boss (2 in 2015, maybe more next year) are maintened by team Easy Formula.

Thank you for the information.

How many cars were there ever produced? I think the maximum number of cars in a race had been 18 at SLF. They are all in hands of the investor?

Would be great to see more in Boss

21 chassis were produced by Panoz. One was destoyed in a crash, one is "missing", all the others chassis are in the hands of the investor.

Regarding the engines, around 30 were produced by MCT. All the engines are in the hands of the investor, exept a dyno engine and another one which was used in the Bloodhound Project (as a fuel pomp for a jet engine !!!)

The Panoz Superleague cars with their V12s are great cars I recall a Euroboss meeting at Donington which was the first meeting for Superleague; they were still building the cars on the friday night........

They share the same tub as the DP01 Indycars. The destroyed one was Chris Van der Drifts shunt at Brands qwhere he hit the Bridge. I'm sure another one had a big shunt at Assen?

Is there any news for the 2016 season? On the website, the Masters-class has been deleted. Only Open & Formula-class it seems. Any news on the new car for Van Kalmthout which he is supposed to race in 2016?

Yes, in the 2016 regulation, the Master class has been deleted. Now cars which will compete in Boss GP are switched in two class :
- Open for Formula One, IndyCar and ChampCar
- Formula for the other cars (GP2, WSR 3.5, F3000, Auto GP, Superleague...)
I suppose this is due to the decrease of the entrants in the Master class

Regarding the starting grid for the coming season, I think it's a little bit early to know exactly who will race this season, but we can expect that the usual Boss competitors like Zwart, Gerstl, De Boer or Smiechowski be present.
About F1 racers, Didier Sirgue could do a few meetings with his 2011 Williams or with a Jaguar and Hans Laub is announced to fight for the Open class title with a Forti F1. His teammate Christain Eicke is known to continue with his GP2. Still in Formula Class, veteran driver Walter Steding bought a GP2 to race in 2016, and the french squad Easy Formula will be in Hockenheim with two Superleague Formula cars.
Team Mangini/Nannini Racing is announced to race in Auto GP this season, I don't know if they will focus on the Italian serie or if they are planning a double program.
No news about Van Kalmthout car. He was supposed to drive a modified GP2 last season but he never came.

The closing date for registration is March 18th, so the drivers announced on the Boss website at this date should give a good idea of cars/drivers we will see during the 2016 season.
