Falcon 500
I was told today that the Canberra car would have only 500Kms on it at best...a stunning original example and a great tribute to its enthusiast owner

clearing up some points re the GpA Toyotas mentioned
I own 2 ex Bob Holden Sprinters including the 1st local GpA Car built, which I ran in IP for a while & am now restoring. The Rally Experience Sprinter was stuffed into a wall at Mallala about 2 years ago & I rescued it before the crusher. It just got a new front cut and turret (it rolled off the trailer coming home from 89 bathurst and Mal Rea patched it). Brad Stratton still owns his FWD Corolla and Scott King has 2 ex TTA FWDs. The first TTA Sprinter/Levin is in melboune in a million bits & its sister car is in Bathurst museum. Peter Williamson still has his GpA Supra and I have piles of bits from its sister car which was crushed in 1993 rather than pay the duties. John Adams is restoring Willo's old MA60 Supra with help from Mal Rea, & I've just done its engine. Mal Reas old Sprinter recently changed hands in Sydney. The Bob Holden FWD Corolla has vanished in WA. I also have the "good bits" out
of Wally Scotts GpC celica, which I had in a celica Sports Sedan for a while. I'm looking for the Supra of Gary Willmington---any clues appreciated????????? |

We know that there are many cars currently being prepared plus a number of cars that have been racing in the past but are currently off the track for a variety of reasons, but will be back. At some point we have the bulk of them on the track at the same time. And variety - at Sandown we had Falcons, Toranas, Commodores, Skylines, Mustang, Alfas, Triumphs, Gemini, Escorts, plus thru the year we have also had RX7s, Volvos, Starions, Celicas, Capris, BMWs, and Corollas. Not bad! It is doubtful that fields will ever be Nc size as we will always have to battle with owner/investors and collectors who want to keep the cars in mothballs and the fact that their is a limited stock of cars that exist, however it is likely that regular 30 cars fields are just around the corner. |

I put this in an unrelated post so it may not have been seen ( sorry if you have)
The Kevin Kennedy Scotty Taylor Group C Commodore is undergoing restoration currently. From what I can tell the only Group C Commodore to run as a 6 cylinder for its first race at Bathurst then ran as a V8 The Murray Carter Group A Nissan Skyline DR30 is to be restored to its Netcomm colours Moffats Group A 1987 ANZ Sierra is to return to Australia shortly All 3 cars will be raced in due course because that what they were built for not to sit in a shed |

Last time I saw the Taylor/Kenndy car I thought it had the wrong cage as when it last raced it had a welded in cage and not the early bolt in type? the car also had a huge shunt at a sports sedan meeting in the 90's at Sandown. If it is the car then yes it did run with a 173 (as the v8 was not going to be finnished in time) at its first bathurst and the next year a V8 |

Group C Pictures of the Commodore in 84 show a bolt in cage Pictures of it running as a sports sedan show a bolt in cage It has a bolt in cage now. Not saying it didnt have a welded in cage at sometime but I dont know
I know it had a shunt but dont know any details of when or the cicumstances other than I think it was T boned ( any further info ?) Steven Kennedy , Kevins son ran the car after that in sports sedan races and also later in historic Group C races The car ran at Bathurst in 1980 as a 6 cylinder. I understand that after practice the triple carbs from the Kennedy/Taylor XU1 sports sedan were put on instead of the single homologated carby and taken off each time it went to scrutineering ( illegal cars -that would make a good thread ) The V8 may have gone in for the next race at Surfers Paradise .It was definitely in for the third race at Sandown in 1981 |

the cage was a bolt in type (to the floor, etc) but not bolted at the cross and the hoops etc. A new cage was put in the car for Bathurst 82 by Re-Car, this was the same cage that was in the Re-Car cars and the Roadways car, the cage that is in the car now is more like what which would have come out of the car in 82 |

They run the Sandown and Phillip Island Historic Meetings in Nov and Feb respectively Also depending on the timing there could be an appearance at the Winton October Meeting - we have been there before but the gap between it and Sandown is too short at the moment for NSW events - the HSRCA - www.hsrca.org.au They run the major NSW historic events typically Grp C/A are invited to the Winter Eastern Creek Meeting and one other. The HRCC in Qld also has an event in July where Grp C/A are invited. Other events are likely to be the Muscle Car Masters, Clipsal, and the Historic Touring Car Festival (if it is on) The Group C web site has a calendar however it is not always accurate as ultimaley they have no control over which events Grp C/A are invited to. |

Group A Commodore VK
I am interested to know if race VK Commodores were made from special bodyshells and did they carry a special chassis number to differentiate them from road cars ? Does AVK######A ring any bells? Were shells supplied to teams as kits? Thanks.

G,day Adrian, I have a VK Group A road car that carries the body No. AVK######M. (Not A) I also have another one which is a factory prepared race shell. This one has "VK19 NASCO SHELL" stamped into the VIN Plate and "VK19 RACINR SHELL" on the build plate. The body No. of this one also ends with M. I am led to believe that the "VK19" part relates to the shell being allocated to HDT. However as can be seen on the above post,(Kennedy/Taylor 6 cylinder) any variant of the VK model could have been built into a Group C/A car.

I heard a little rumor today that in Late January.. the 1973 Moffat Falcon, and the 1973 Brock Torana will be out at Calder Park for some testing.
Apparentally to figure out how the Ford with a million dollars of technology was so much slower then the Torana |

Considering all the original 1973 XA's used for racing that season are dead and buried, preumebly it would mean testing the 1972 Phase III they used in the 1973 ATCC, which was won by Moffat beating Brock's Torana............who was so much slower?
How will a test 32 years after the event figure anything out, the cars will hardly be allowed to be pushed to their limits. |

It was built on a very tight budget with a fair bit of recycled Sierra componentry including a 5 speed gearbox. It raced in 93 with a carby, but received a DJR fuel injected engine for 94. |

To me the thing doesnt look as 'shiny' as it did when Moff ran it... This is the car that was wrecked at Bathurst by Alan Heath, and rebuilt by the SA TAFE.... |

This one confuses me Car claims to be original Bob Morris/Alan Jones XE, tehn claims to be fully restored immaculate but is painted as DJR Greenstuff 17? Surely Full resto would put it back to one of it's real paint jobs. And the Bob Morris XE was a good looking car. Thinking as I type now, Maybe this is the car DJ used at Bathurst after his Greenstuff got wrecked in the shootout? I seem to remember that it was an EX Alan Jones, Sheppard built machine, in which case its a real piece of history. (DJ said it was a peice of $h!+ actually) |

The one and the same. Commissioned by Alan Jones, who then declined to drive it following a shakedown, as it was in his words, "a pig". Winner of the Oran Park enduro in 1982 in the hands of Bob Morris, a driver never short of the braves... Courageously driven into the top ten at Bathurst in qualifying that year - the aerodynamics of the rear spoiler, combined with the lack of understanding by most (DJR included) on how to make the new Watts line rear work, made the XE's a dangerous prospect on debut. Despite that, it was a well-presented and attractive car, as had been the XD which died at McPhillamy the year previous... until the XE broke a wheel at the Elbow and smote the wall hard with John Fitzpatrick at the wheel. Andrew Harris had it at the big hill in 1983, and the rest is history... hastily repainted, and re-engined on the Saturday night, it didn't cover iutself in glory on the Saturday I believe that DJR were to give it a freshen-up following Bathurst, although I have never heard much about that... It also performed well for a time in Freedom Fence warpaint... the Greens-Tuf paint it's presented in is too flashy to be authentic, as she was a bit of a rush job as has been well-documented. My personal preference would be to see it in the Seiko-7 colours, but that would mean the smaller rear rubber and cruddy rear spoiler... certainly a significant car |
