Just tracked down some Hollysiz on Spotify (a happening Friday night commute home here...). Inoffensive Europop with sadly no sign of "insolent texts".

Am I the only one who never heard of these bands? If the Rolling Stones were playing I might consider attending.

Money is obviously very tight with the ACO at the moment, anyone remotely popular will be to expensive

Among them, only Alpha Blondy is known worldwide. Maybe he is not known in UK ?

I'm inclined to give the ACO a break here. They've got a world class product in the race, adding a few bands (who may well appreciate playing to a reasonable audience) to keep the atmosphere going does no harm, and having listened to a bit of Renan Luce (vaguely reminded me of Jacques Brel - if that doesn't get the Belgians too agitated) and the mildly maligned Hollysiz there's nothing truly awful there. If it keeps the casual fan pleased so much the better, and for the rest of us, all it does is be a minor traffic hazard for a brief period in the evening.
I suspect I'd bridle a little more if they splashed out and got Leonard Cohen along, where I'd be terribly divided about watching cars and watching someone great. |

I would be divided too if some less known dinosaurs came. Iggy Pop would be over the regulatory 115 dB. |

If the Rolling Stones were playing, I might consider NOT attending. Fortunately, I shan't be anywhere near any of this noise, but will enjoy only the "noise" of the cars during my week+ at Le Mans. Can you imagine what chaos there could be if the Stones were playing?..... |

To be fair to the ACO, all those on this forum would be going to Le Mans whoever they book for the concert. Therefore the target audience must be people in the local region who may or may not otherwise attend, so therefore I assume they are selecting bands that appeal to the local audience.

I understand that they will book bands that the locals will like but they always seemed to book one band that would give them a little more coverage outside France but what do the locals think of this line up i wonder?

Here is a very interesting schedule, but I think we should have to attend either for the cars or for the concerts. Don't think the ACO could afford both........

I enjoy discovering new music and a couple of the band's sound interesting, especially the electro klezmer one. Better not say more or Allon might get worried about what he might have to listen to on the way down. :Sean

claude2cv has a point here. Imagine the 10/10s forum in 1989 and the comments if the ACO had announced that an upcoming band from the USA called Nirvana was performing.
"never heard of them" "they look awfull" "gonna watch cars instead" "what were the ACO people thinking" "why don't they hire The Rolling Stones, David Bowie or U2?" |
