I enjoyed that race, but I was kinda shocked at the driving standards from some of the Pros. Lopez and Piquet really should not be as poor as they are.
Fassbender shouldn't be anywhere near an LMP2. |

But he's Magneto... He can just stretch out his hand and, gently, nudge the other cars over...

So, which would've been the better choice for P2, Fassbender or Dempsey?

Considering Fassbender has had all the best resources to hand and hasn’t really improved much P2 does not seem a good idea to me. The Oreca spares department will think it’s all their Christmas’s and birthdays come at once.

Looks like Fassbender has chosen not to do the testing, and is looking forward to racing in '25 after some time off.

Going by recent articles on DSC, the ACO has set a 22-10-10 split for LMP2-LMP3 and GT3 for next year in ELMS.
In doing so, they seem to be prepared to turn down at least some potential LMP2-entries, as new and existing teams apparently have plans what would make for a 30 car LMP2 field if all of them came to fruition. With WEC no longer allowing LMP2, I am wondering if its the right thing to do for the ACO to turn down potential LMP2 programs, as those guys really have no other place to run outside of ELMS. I mean, yes, there's IMSA and Asian LMS - but the former is also already oversubscribed and an ocean away and the other hardly constitutes a full season program. Wouldn't it be smarter to admit all LMP2 entrants and move LMP3 entirely to the Michelin Le Mans Cup and national series? Or even to go an all-prototype-route and leave the GT-stuff to the SRO-series? |

When reading the DSC article earlier today I was also thinking of moving LMP3 to LMC. On the other hand for GT3 cars there are plenty of series, both sprint and endurance racing. So removing the latter makes more sense.
It's difficult. Small grids are a problem but having to much entries creates new problems. I would not mind to see some series, like German Prototype Cup, to have besides LMP3 also LMP2 cars. Maybe there's a future for LMP2 outside ACO. |

This is what happens when there is an "embarrassment of riches" in sports car racing. More teams and cars then can find a place to race. The new formula has been very successful in attracting entrants, but now it may need the attention of several national series to create new opportunities for some of these interested parties. Be able to handle the overflow while having some very exciting race action, and still have that connection to the major series and events.
It will take some interested and innovative minds to make this happen, but I believe this can happen. |

2024 Entry List Announced...
https://www.dailysportscar.com/wp-co...1_04.12.23.pdf Surprised that Claudio Schiavoni and Iron Dames are driving Porsche's with Proton. I would have expected them to be using Lamborghini's. |

Kind of funny that the GT field consists of Ferraris, Astons and Porsches (and one Lambo).

Observations
- 22 Orecas - only 7 makes in total for the series. - No BMW, McLaren, Vette or Mustang in GT3 - GR in a Ferrari Opinions: - not much variety in the series, especially in GT - stunning to see Dragonspeed only getting (3rd) reserve spot - it's time for LMP3 to be dropped from the main series to free up spots for additional GT brands All in all a healthy list. Let's hope we'll see a surprise one-off appearances by another GT brand in the course of the season. |

Shame the diversity of LMGT3 from WEC hasnt transferred over to ELMS, but it is nice that this series has remained focused on LMP2 and LMP3, meaning it will feel distinctly different to the WEC. We wouldn't want everything the same!
My real question left is the value of Le Mans Cup. I dont watch that one anyway |

That's a staggering 65% - roughly 2/3 of the entire grid! |

All the teams in P2 have chosen Oreca because it has been shown to be the best package over the years, so what do you expect the ACO to do if all the teams who submitted entries have chosen Oreca?

For a 2nd level series like ELMS 2024 is too early for Mustang and Corvette, I am sure we will see them in 2025.
