I know...

DJR1 and DJR2, both built for the 1987 season as Cosworth RS cars and then upgraded to RS500 specification. Indeed one of them was converted to RHD.

The DJR squad was seriously nuts (whats changed ) at the time building a LHD chassis and a RHD chassis... thinking they could have advantages at different tracks

may be stats wise, they raced from when 87-1992? thats 6 seasons, but once the GTR was launched it totally anhilliated teh RS500's

Even the Auzzies became frightned of and called the GTR a Godzilla so they brought an end to them and started racing huge tanks with pushrod based v8 engines...and solid axles lol

DJR were not the first team to do this. Allan Moffat did it in 1982, he built his new RX7 (in addition to his RHD 1981 built car) in LHD especially for the races at Sandown and Bathurst, as the tracks 'went left'. Not only was it felt he would have a better view of the track line and corner wise, it was though with the drivers weight being over 'lightest' side of the car when cornering, it would help keep the wheels on the ground and the Mazda was forced to corner with alot zest.

Theorectically thinking what was nuts about that?

The car Gravett used in 1990 to win the BTCC was a Trakstar built car, but the team did run two DJR-built cars in 1989, #20 for Gravett, #21 for Mike Smith, at every round of the championship.

The team battled for dollars in 1990 though, hence why Smith only did a few rounds.

Apparently Norm Beechey had contemplated adapting the Monaro to enable the swapping of driving position from right to left, depending on the track... didn't happen, but would've been interesting

Hi racer69, Trakstar did run 2 ex-DJR sierra's in the '89 BTCC, but Gravett used 21 and Smithy 20, in '90 Gravett used the new car and Smithy drove a few rounds with the new owner of the Gravett 21 car, Graham Hathaway.

Sure you dont mean Peter Manton, the Mini king of the Neptune Racing Team & its derivations ... it did happen in the Mini I believe (?).

Moff had LHD & RHD versions of the RX7.

Many of the original drivers also turned out for a drive in their old cars.
Myself and Steve are hoping to get our cars in the Goodwood festival this year.

The '87 polesitter was never a Brock car... but Moff's baby looks lonely sitting there doesnt it Dead...

The GT-R was only around for 1990, 1991 and 1992.. while the Sierra first saw life in 1986 and finished its life in 1992 as well....

... and won Spa in the process...

Reading the latest MRA, anyone know the history of the VK Commodore that was driven by the Japanese drivers in the last round of the 1987 WTCC?

Ex-HDT perhaps? I always thought Mr Brock left his car behind when he raced at Fuji in 1986....

Hi, GTRMagic, sorry for being a little confusing, at Donington last year we had the '87 pole sitting Rouse/Moffat sierra and the Rouse/Brock car, i.e. 2 different cars.
The Rouse/Moffat ANZ car has been sold recently to an Australian buyer !

racer2_uk - The Rouse/Moffat Sierra wasn't on pole at Bathurst in 1987, the #7 Ludwig/Neidzweidz Eggenberger Sierra was.
