What sort of attitude is this? This is a formula one forum. There is plenty to whinge about. There is a main presenter that isn't an expert on the sport, I mean it's not his job and he may even be popular, but crikey, this won't do. And there is EJ, no amount of four time world champions or total legends like Zanardi can make up for that.

Why can't we go back to the days of just two commentators talking at us down a phone line about a race we joined at lap 23.

Yours etc.

Not sure about Steve Jones. He's to front it. Anything I've seen him on he's come across as a bit 'smarmy' and insincere.

I don't know who he is. What's he on?

Wasn't expecting much of the Blue Peter presenter on beeb, but he worked out well.

Edit: Just looked him up. Isn't he from Stereophonics? I've not seen any of the programmes he's been in.

I do miss those days, Mr. Disgusted. Although starting the broadcast before the start of the race is one innovation I wouldn't roll back.

I presume it's a Niki Lauda role for him at Renault where Prost gives 15 minutes for some punditry or insight. He could reasonably do both.

I dunno what Nic Hamilton is doing on the rota except to have a famous name there to draw in the viewers.

C4 have the paralympics again this year from Rio, what better to show that they aren't just focusing on those 3 weeks, than by having a disabled racing driver do the odd feature over the season.

It was rumoured, but Frederic Vasseur of ART Grand Prix is at the helm at Enstone.

He is just an ambassador for Renault, similar, I would imagine, to Jackie Stewart was for Goodyear and Ford, and Niki Lauda at Ferrari, both of which were years ago.

I think Prost has some stake in the e.dams Formula E team as well, doesn't he? Which may not be unconnected to his Renault role.

This Steve Jones has hosted the one show on bbc a couple of times, but I can't remember exactly. He's done some 'reality' quiz shows I think. Didn't make a great impression on me except I got the 'must avoid' feelings.

He may be fine, so we'll have to see.

He used to present (the unlamented) T4 and I think he hosted the first series of The X Factor USA. Not, I think we can safely say, a motor racing specialist.

Not always a bad thing. I'm very much in the camp that says Jake Humphrey brought something new, in a good way.

He's said in the past 6 weeks, since getting the job, that he's watched every single practice/qualifying session and race from last season, and some of them twice. So there's no arrogance there, he's working on his weakness.

Apparently his aim for this season is to get Kimi to smile. Good luck on that one.

If you read through the follow-up press blurb about him, and his approach to the new F1 programmes, is that he will rely on others for the more technical aspects, but that he is "immersing" himself in the library of past broadcasts. His aim is to bring more "fun" into the shows, and there are comments on whether this might mean that the programmes will become "dummed down" to reach a different audience.

No doubt there will be plenty of comments after the first broadcast.

You're quite right Mike, I will no doubt be adding mine!
To be honest, I didn't dislike Jake Humphries as I thought his lack of 'involvement' with the sport enabled him to see the bigger picture. There were a few instances when he was able to stop EJ & DC "playing brum-brums" and keep the show moving on. Hopefully the new guy will have the same effect, but I must admit to my concerns about him 'bringing more fun into the shows'.

I also quite liked Humphries, and he did do his best to keep things moving along as best as he could, which I suppose is the art of a good anchor person.

However, for those of you who will be watching, although I applaud their commitment to not interrupt the live races with adverts, I do hope that they will not try to emulate ITV and their coverage of the BTCC who cram in as many ad-breaks as they can between races, which includes one that is broadcast on the green flag lap. Doing that you can sometimes miss an incident that happens on the run up to the start.

I think they will take the Sky approach (on their exclusive races last season), of last advert at about 8 or 9 minutes to the hour, returning in time for the 5 minute sting.
How long after the flag, will be the interesting one, realistically there is space for a relatively short ad-break before the podium, but since we now have cameras following the drivers into the anti-room, with the audience hearing that first exchange between the drivers ... I wouldn't want to lose that.

For me if they have to cram in more ad breaks before and after the race to avoid ad breaks during the race, that's a price worth paying

One worrying thought that's just crossed my mind is: will they be cramming ad breaks in between the three qualifying sessions? This could be another reason to record (even the live) qualifying sessions to watch slightly later so I can fast-forward through the adverts...

Yes, this is why they like the three session for stand concern was raised over proposed changes before they retained that element.

It is pretty obvious that as adverts pay heavily towards CH4 coverage that there will be plenty stuffed in everywhere, except the race.
Yes, I was a Jake camp too. He said it plainly and was a "family" type bloke.
I hope this new one doesn't go too over the top.
Look on the bright side.

That's the problem I think...he thinks he's hilarious and he is not or at least I don't find him so. Bringing more fun and the potential dumbing down are my biggest fears. JH was okay I thought. He did try and did better the longer he did it. At least he was likeable.
Pity Suzi Perry has gone back to bikes, I thought she did a great job.

Have C4 said anything about ad breaks yet?
