Time for lap records. 1:32 is likely to happen.

Race lap record by Alex Palou will probably survive the entire GTP era but Oliver's quali record already no more. That's FAST times.

All over, sector times of the Porsches too slow on their last effort. If it is indeed an effort.

Caddy showed speed and then a mixed field behind. Going to be a cracking start next week!

What happened to the 60 Honda (aka Acura)?
EDIT: My mistake, somehow I missed that one - 6th place according to S365. Last edited by tomcug; 21 Jan 2024 at 20:13. |

77 Porsche of Christensen very fast wow! 1) Porsche speed issues from last year are certainly gone 2) low 1 min 44s is in there range the GTLMs once were at. In a complete reversal, last year's overall GTD winners (#27 Aston) dead last in the qualifying session.

Looking at sector times the 963 is a little bit quicker that Caddy on the straights but slower in corners. Interesting since at Le Mans the 963 was strong in the Porsche curves. Probably setup-influenced (?). |

Was it that stark at Le Mans? They seemed pretty much the same. The best times show the Porsche had a quicker top speed (2.2km/h) there too, and 0.043 quicker in sector 3.
Unfortunately we don’t get top speeds in IMSA, just sector times. Last year we saw that the privateers and Penske often went different ways on set up, especially in wec. Both ways IIRC, with quite a difference in top speed. So I think you are on to something with set up. |

Looks like the #92 Porsche chassis could be toast. Spare on site thankfully - https://sportscar365.com/imsa/iwsc/d...ay-notebook-8/
Wouldn't be a big 24 hour event without a 911 being written off pre-race. |

Never good, but not so bad at this point in this nine day event.

Few other notes were interesting in there too
Lola B2K/10 prototype used for car-to-car shooting for the Pitt movie. Interesting choice for a bit of historics racing on track too instead of the usual slow pace minivan with the back open And Dagys hearing a GTD Pro team will be swapping over to Ford for next year. Paul Miller sell a lot of Fords at his dealers? Or is Kenny a Ford man instead of his fleet of AMGs. |

Using a Lola as a camera car to film on track sportscar action. It’s been done before

Great conditions and they’ve learnt and developed the car so much since last year. |

My oldest friend and I attended the 24 (last Sunbank/first Rolex) 91-95. We experienced midnite temps from 55 down to 32. On the latter occasion we were ready to bail and get a room when some guys backed a PU full of firewood in right behind our tent and commenced ignition. We could hang...

I go cold turkey on racing over the winter ; so apologies for dumb questions.
What did Shank do to cheat? I was a fan all the way back to Rolex/Grand Am. He was the only one to field 2 cars full seasons. What happened to #5? Crashed, DNQ/will not start? Start from pits? Understand Lambo has homologation commitments for WEC, but why no Ferrari GTP? So many roundballers and pop stars they don't need no stinking race publicity to sell cars in the US? That was my complaint on NBC Sports Gold/IMSA. livescoring.us is damn near real time. I watched the start of Petit '18 from outside T1 entry and livescoring showed green within 50 yards of actual green flag. It only takes a few seconds for Hindy to see feeds and send us his hyperactive observations. NBC streams were over 50 seconds behind!
