How many times have we seen this now? Teams thinking they'll out-think everyone and end up with egg on their faces.

Whatever happens, qualifying is again proving a bit more exciting than the GP itself so far this season.

Close for TGF; a bit pants in the final sector. Which would have been a shame as he was strong when everyone first went out.
Well not whatever happens. The last race was more interesting than this (good) qualifying session. |

Red flag now to give the remaining teams time to replace their full wets with oars.

He did well to keep that on the island to put a time in, good pole for the inevitable half race we have tomorrow
McLaren and Ferrari...what can I say? Utterly baffling. They weren't exactly going to destroy a set of inters for one flying lap as a banker were they? Seems like a no-brainier for me, especially when you consider the notorious unreliability of the weather radar. |

The world continues to show it doesn't understand weather forecasting, probability and uncertainty.

As a Webber fan, I know you have to celebrate the small things, so well done Webber on a good choice and keeping it on the track. Use the same tactics tomorrow for once.

I think it's interesting that in the sort of conditions Schumacher used to excel in, he has been comfortably beaten by his teammate. I guess there's still the race to come, and I don't think Rosberg has ever looked impressive in a wet F1 race.
I sort of want the race to be dry though, I think it would be interesting to see how Massa, Alonso, Button and Hamilton could fare in a straight fight from the back of the grid. |

Apparently, Sepang is in need of an upgrade and maybe that will include a weather radar system that works.

Does the circuit maintain and provide the weather forecast and radar station? I thought they were all provided by Meteo France and assumed it was some sort of mobile service. All teams use the same provider now, it was part of a cost cutting measure IIRC.
I thought the predictions today were pretty good. To be within a minute or two is admirable. Predicting severity is difficult too. All weather predictions are estimations of what is most likely to happen, not a definitive prediction. Then the weathermen get berated because the people who read it don't understand. |
