barnettracing should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Van Diemen did build a single seater/sports prototype that could be converted between the two specifications. It was called Formula X. I'm not sure it ever took off, though I believe the Formula Ireland car was based off the single seater design.

I wish there were more, then I'd have a good change of selling someone www.FormulaLibre.com for their website!

Single seaters only of course.

I suppose the closed wheel version could be the CNC Heads Championship. A mixture of the sublime to the downright bizarre!!

Indeed, closed wheel libre is alive and well under a number of names and classes / challenges etc.

I think it's just part of motorsports history that "Formula [....]" is associated with open wheel.

As you rightly say 'Formula' is usually associated with open wheel, like wise I always think of 'Allcomers' as close wheel.

Exploded should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
There is a championship in the Netherlands called Formula racing, it's really a championship created with the spirit of a formula libre championship in mind. It's for proto's silhouettes, single seaters... They accept any engine or make. The only downside to the chapionship is that their are noise limits depending on the circuit they drive in Assen that was only 95dB drive by.

BARC's Formula Libre (if it actually happens) though isn't Libre in the established sense as its for spec F3, Formula Renault and Formula BMW / Intersteps cars.

Formula 5 has been postponed for 2015, and that was to form a class of BARC Formula Libre.

I thought F5 was supposed to be a 750 formula? Maybe not. Anyway there are indications that the Clubmans formula cars (front engined Mallocks and the like) are also eligible for F Libre so maybe the eligibility is slightly wider than initially thought?

And BARC Formula Libre has been quietly booted into touch. Its been removed from their website. Only three entrants apparently.
