Actually that's how it appeared in the programme, but yes, I was most appreciative of Honor Blackman. Stayed sexy as she matured, too!

I've thrown another thread together, of bits from two different ones:-
http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113097 However, I'm finding it very time consuming and it's difficult to know what to include. I gave up on adding the posts from a third thread as it really is complicated. It seems to me that we should also have a separate thread on Mini/Imp/Reliant/Fiat small engined stuff and the Skodas appear to warrant a thread of their own. |

Sorry chaps, been away for a few days. A couple of points, first wasn't the Tony Hazlewood Cortina the ex-Doc Merfield car. I'm stuck into some 71 A/Spurts, and think of read that point. Next the Hawker 3-litre Escort wasn't a DFV motor. He got this only when he built his Capri in 73-74. The Rapier Chev was Martin Kent.

Special Saloon /Super Saloon Register
Great idea to start a register for these cars but there must be little hope of following full ownership trail through as there were hundreds of them! - I used to follow Anglia history and owned a number of well known cars in the 1970's when they were worthless. Still have all my scrap books, photos and programmes form '65 onwards and have photos of many of the cars already discussed. And to me special saloon racing started about 1964 with the first of the big engine Anglias and other hybrids. Before this most saloons even in club racing resembled Group 2 cars. Have photos I took at Mallory in '63 of a saloon handicap featuring very standard looking (possibly Superspeed) Anglias up against everything including a Gogomobile!

In terms of a register, the easiest thing we can do is track cars that were actually built and are therefore still recognisably distinctive, as opposed to every car that had a larger engine fitted. Tracking Anglias with twin-cams is a different order of magnitude of difficulty to tracking Skodas with DFVs. The Janglia, the Boss Capri, Baby Bertha, the DFVW - these are all trackable and stand a chance of existing today. But as we haven't defined the task yet, nobody can say it's impossible! |

We still needs lists of cars to start making sense of where the cars had come from. Entry lists make a very good starting point.
Guys, Drifty's objection is overruled. Please keep the entry lists coming - for any year you happen to have to hand. |

is there a sulky Icon smiley?? if so i want to comandeer it
i did have some programmes from our brands 75-80 racing days but i fear they have one out into the bin my main reason to go year by year is to see the various cars drivers tuning shop /entrants so it becomes easier to follow cars changing hands or getting upgrade engines/ spec good fotos are now required either scanned from the race mags or private photographers who visited these races to aid the changes of owners livery spec when you look at the other threads we have jumped to n fro on chassis numbers names etc and duplicated some points and new posters come on line dont read thru the thread and duplicate again what we already know we know the main cars ie Superloons plus the myraid of escorts capris of the 74-78 era plus the Gp6 sports based car skoda esprit cars but to fathom the many imps mini anglia baby class escorts will take time hence the need for year on year and some fotos Last edited by driftwood; 20 Feb 2009 at 11:08. |

Anglias in 1967
I told you that there many Anglias. Here is an edited list for 1967; probably the last year of Anglia domination in the over 1300 class as Escorts came into prominence in 1968.
1967 Norman Abbott 1800 purple. Brian Cutting 1900 Martin 12-valve metallic flake blue (MN 18-5-67) – to John Burbidge by late 1967. Team Anglia had two cars, one for Brian Peacock and Dave Garrett (and occasionally Rod Mansfield) 1798cc twin cam, and the other for Rod Mansfield 1650cc twin cam. For sale by John Field/Team Anglia, Hornchurch, Rod Mansfield’s 1650 twin cam £680. (MN 27-7-67). Probably to Keith Payne. P Hawthorne (Castle Service Station Racing) 1594 (new shell needed after crash at Mallory Park in March). Lawrence (Laurie) Hickman 1000 Superspeed-tuned. Brian Keen and John Cummins (East Anglian Racing Cars) 1298 twin cam. Mike Lacey ex-Paul Webb ` 1300. Pat Mannion 1650. Stanley Matthews (John Bond-Smith) 1600 or 1650. R M (Martin) Maudling and Richard Sandilands 1650. Ian McDougall and Gerry Edmonds 1000 MAE (Broadspeed-tuned). Terry J McNally 1650 twin cam (badly damaged at Brands Hatch in January) (“which must now be on at least its third body shell” MN 11-5-67). For sale £695 Kirby Muxloe, Leics – (MN 22-6-67). John E Miles and David Brodie 1300 (sold to an “Irishman” MN 22-2-68). John Myerscough 1650 pushrod or twin cam. Les Nash 1298. Alan Peer (East Anglian Racing Cars) was to contest the British Saloon Car Championship with a new Group 5 car with a 1300 downdraught port engine, but this would conflict with Ford’s official programme so it was fitted with a 997 MAE for club racing. Also raced by John Fitzpatrick and Roger Taylor. Silver (and burgundy?). Raced in Group 5 specification as well. Zekia Redjep 1594 twin cam. Tony Roberts - called Spottie 1600 twin cam spotted (black on white) paintwork. (caught fire at Lydden in August but repaired). David Smith and Bob Smith 1820 twin cam (ex Alan Peer MN 26-1-67). Roger Taylor (East Anglian Racing Cars) 1820 twin cam. Dave Willars (also raced by Derek Bennett) 1650 (sold to Brian Classick, first raced in October). Copied from post 53 for completeness: John Hewitt Anglia Climax 2.5 blue. Reg Gubbins Anglia-Buick now fuel-injected and quoted as 4.3. Richard Scantlebury Ford Anglia-Jaguar. 4.0. Maurice Winch Anglia 1.6 or 1.8 twin cam (Wanglia) – modified by putting a 6 inch wide strip down the centre (the whole car except the roof was widened) (MN 25-5-67). Group 5 (British Saloon Car Championship) Chris Craft (Superspeed) 1300. Nick Brittan (Superspeed) 1300 (on carbs at the start of the season). Mike Young (Superspeed) 1300 Tecalemit-Jackson fuel injection. John Fitzpatrick (Broadspeed) 1000 Tecalemit-Jackson fuel injection – second overall and class winner. Anita Taylor and Trevor Taylor (Broadspeed) 1000 Tecalemit-Jackson fuel injection (also practised by Roger Taylor). Sold to Leonard Ward Racing for racing in 1968 by Ken Costello in the European Challenge and John Bischoff in the RAC (British) Saloon Car Championship – raced by John Bischoff at Boxing Day Brands Hatch. Chris Lambert (McKechnie Racing Org) 1000 Holbay on side-draught Webers (may also have been raced by Barrie Williams). Ron Fry ex-Broadspeed (1966 car) 1000 fuel injection. Mike Davies (Knocker Hill Racing Team) 1000. |

Just some Vauxhall history:- Old Nail started as a flat fronted Firenza and debuted in 1971 and was maily raced by Dad but Bill Dryden won the Scottish championship in her and also drove her a few times supporting Big and Baby Bertha. Old Nail's career is important as the two DTV Vivas were crashed at Lydden in 1971. Old Nail was raced until 1976 by DTV and last used by Gerry Marshall in 1978 - now owned by me and on load at Donington. The DTV Vivas - One became John Pope's Viva which then became John's white turbo-charged Magnum (Dad drove both of these versions for John) and is still owned by John and I think still used on the road. The second Viva was bought by Gerry Johnstone and Stan Burge who both raced her and Dad raced this car several times too. The car was then sold to Dave Millington in 1972 (he had a huge accident in at Oulton Park in 1973 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bosTNtfjai0) and he then in 1976 he sold it to Mervyn Dornford of Porto Rico but to be shipped to Guyana (the dealer brokered by Phillip DeFreitas) and Mervyn then took the car to Florida - he still has and races the car today in SCAA regional events, winning the ASR class championship in 1988. Big Bertha was raced by Gerry Marshall in 1974 only and was built into; Baby Bertha was raced by Gerry Marshall in 1975, 1976, 1977 and then again in 1983 and 1984 (Paul Haywood-Halfpenny and Phil Barak had her in the intervening years) before Joe Ward bought (and still owns) Baby Bertha. Mega Bertha was started in 1976 and was never finished or raced (Vauxhall took the project away from DTV and never finished it!!) but is still existence today and should be on the tracks this year and I don't know if the owner is that public about it so I won't post his name. Right, that's some of the DTV Vauxhalls but there were a lot of customer cars, not to mention Tony Davies Transpeed Firenza that Gerry raced with Tony a few times and Tony still racers to this day, very original car and the Vauxhall Chevette built for Mike Smith (also raced by Gerry) and was sold on ebay last year and also the Stars and Stripes Manta built by Gerry Johnstone (and again raced by Gerry!!). |

There were loads of Firenzas and Vivas out there as you could get the bits from your local Sportparts Vauxhall dealer (85% of Old Nail was standard anyway) plus DTV would build customer cars.
There were also people like Phil De Freitas, Piggy Thompson, Mike Newman, Jackie Patterson, Gabriel Konig to name just a few. |
