I forgot to tune in as well. I will, however, watch the replay that will be shown in a couple of minutes at 19:05 CET.
Edit - Nice looking field, lots of cars. Pretty close, hard racing too. Last edited by rustyfan; 25 Apr 2014 at 17:07. |

This was posted at Jayski's, this morning. Don't know if anyone has seen it. From Jayski's Silly Season:
NASCAR Euro driver killed in Philippines: Former NASCAR Whelen Euro Series driver Ferdinand "Enzo" Pastor was shot and killed Thursday night in Quezon City, Philippines. Pastor was the first Filipino driver in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, finishing sixth in the series standings in 2013. According to reports, the 32-year-old was traveling to Pampanga for the Asian V8 Championship, a stock-car race for drivers from the Asia-Pacific area. The incident occurred when Pastor was driving a truck carrying his race car to Clark International Speedway in Pampanga. Paulo Salazar, Pastor's assistant who was also injured in the shooting, said they stopped at a traffic light when a masked man approached the vehicle and began shooting. Pastor was struck in the head, neck and arm, and died after being transported to the hospital. According to the report, police investigators ruled out robbery since none of Pastor's personal belongings were stolen during the incident. They are still trying to determine if the shooting was related to racing.(FoxSports)(6-14-2014) |

Think this might draw some interest here, just saw it at Jayski's:
Eddie Cheever III interested in NASCAR: Eddie Cheever Jr. came up through the European open-wheel ranks to run Formula One and capture the 1998 Indianapolis 500. His son, Eddie Cheever III, was taking the same path. But, earlier this year, Cheever abruptly diverted course and made a significant career change when he discovered the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. The Euro Series emulates American-made, NASCAR-style racing with full-bodied, sedan-style cars with races in England, France, Spain, Italy and Germany. With the Formula One dream out of the way, Cheever hopes this new path takes him to the United States, where his stock-car training will be elevated. Cheever hopes to have a NASCAR K&N Pro Series ride in the near future. K&N has been a major pipeline to NASCAR's national series in recent years."My goal is to become a professional driver," Cheever said. "If I'm good enough and have resources, Sprint Cup driver would be my dream."(Daytona Beach News-Journal)(6-15-2014) |

FIRST NASCAR WIN AN HONOUR FOR EDDIE CHEEVER
Eddie Cheever won his first NASCAR race in his third attempt by conquering the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series ELITE 1 Saturday Race at Brands Hatch, UK. The Italian driver lead every lap, claiming a win that make him proud and represents an important step in his stock-car career. “It’s an honour for me to be counted among NASCAR race winners and I hope this is just the first of many to come. It was fantastic to achieve it in my what was my third stock-car race,” sai Eddie, who is also leading the classification of the Jerome Sarran Trophy for drivers aged 25 and under. “Winning is never easy and we worked very hard for this result. I want to thank CAAL Racing for giving me a very fast Chevrolet SS #51 and I hope to be able to repeat very soon” The historic victory, the first for an Italian driver in the European NASCAR Series, came few hours after Eddie won the pole position in a very close saturday morning qualifying session that saw 19 drivers separated by just 7 tenths of a second. Starting from the pole was fundamental for the final result on the tight 1.198 miles British track. “Starting in front is very important on this track and winning the pole in my second NASCAR qualifying session was amazing, considering also that we went very close to it Valencia in April,” continued Cheever. “Once the green flag dropped, I had to keep myself focused to avoid any mistake and to keep all the doors closed. I knew the track vey well and I gave my best each and every lap”. The next NASCAR Whelen Euro Series event will take place in France at the Tours Speedway – a half-mile oval track built in downtown Tours, with four 9-degree banked turns – and it will mark Eddie’s debut on oval. “We were always very competitive this year. I think that the Series’ top drivers will battle for the win again in Tours and I believe we can be very fast. To contend for the top step of the podium on an oval would be fantastic,” concluded Cheever. English version of the driver's PR: http://motorsportrants.com/nascar/wh...ria-in-nascar/ |
