This week, the Dakar Series China Rally is held across 2500 km in Inner Mongolia, on a route designed by Tiziano Siviero.

Damen Jefferies and (Uruguayan) Diego Licio competed with a buggy for team Yan Dai Chen Group. They drove an American prototype, whereas the teammates drove a Chinese clone.

On stage 1, their teammates retired on km 5. At the bivouac, the team told the Jefferies / Licio that they were out of the race, having switched the decals so the Chinese would drive the American buggy...

The 2018 Dakar Rally has been unveiled.

The routes goes from north to south. It starts in Lima, has a day off in La Paz, and ends in Córdoba. It's some 8700 km total and 4200 km timed.

They could be strong contenders this year although their buggy is pretty overweight evidently but with their combined experience they should do well.
3 Brits to look out for in the bikes, Sam Sunderland is obviously a front runner along with Lindon Poskitt(Nr.100) and Max Hunt(Nr.79). Full of admiration for these guys

Hmmm - it's marked and called as a big caution but he ignores the call and bins it in a big way, destroying the car and injuring his co-driver in the process. I'd be more than a bit annoyed if I was the co-driver. If the driver is going to ignore the notes and info you're giving them then how on earth can you get in a car with them?

I've caught a few bits and pieces of the Dakar coverage so far and it's looking tough as ever! The cars got quite spread out early on didn't they? There's some big gaps between them already.

Sam Sunderland already out with a back injury after a heavy landing.
And Nani Roma with concussion.
It's a brutal event.
