According to the last swedish Auto Motor & Sport Polestar has presented a case-study on a race-version of the C30 to Volvo, and there is interest to run it in STCC and selected WTCC races next year. Even though it's a 3-door car I say: let it come!

The C30 is a great looking car but I prefer a S40 or S60 (because they are saloons ). From a marketing point of view this is maybe a logical choice because the C30 is for a younger public.

I would prefer the S40 as well, but from a marketing perspective the C30 is the best choice indeed. The S60 is too big, especially the upcoming one judging from the new V70. And the S40 is on the market for a longer time already, so it wouldn't make sense to start racing that model now, by the time it'll be competative it'll be replaced.

Isn't the C30 a bit short?

It's only 7cm shorter than the Leon, and exactly as long (4m25) as the Civic and Astra that drove/drive in the BTCC. Not too much out of place imho.

Better C30 than No Volvo. But better S40 than C30. Hands down.

No, please Volvo, no C30. I love the road car, but it's not a race car for touring cars. As JMeissner says, it's too short. The next Volvo touring car must be the S40. I agree, the S60 is getting old, and it's never quite looked right with the big body and small wheels (did the 2002 silver prototype have larger wheels???)
A few years ago I did some drawings of an S40 prototype and mailed them to the Volvo CEO, but heard nothing. Trust me, it looked awesome. And it's just been facelifted, so must have three more years before replacement.
We should all contact Polestar and Volvo and advise of our displeasure with the concept of the C30 racing.
I just don't like the Super 2000 cars heading to hatches. I really do not like the Seat Leon, nor the Halfords BTCC Civic. Bring back the Accord. Is there a current Toledo?

Sacrilege!

Err, these is a Toledo. It looks just like the Leon, but a bit taller and a Vel Satis style boot - so it's even less suitable (hence why SEAT went and developed the Leon II for the WTCC rather than the new Toledo).

Rather a C30 than nothing.... unless you have a better option for Volvo? As said, the S40 and S60 aren't really options at the moment.

Touring cars today sure are ugly.

Give me saloons any day.

On reflection, the C30 looks quite nice. Certainly better than the Astra / Civic / Leon hatchback type things.

That will take a while. BTW it will be based on new Audi A4, so it will have a longitudinal engine layout.

It means that it probably wont get as good weight distibution as the engine will hang further over the front axle. The A4 in STCC should have the same problem, dont know how they have solved it?

They're actually fixing that problem on the new Audi's, the engine isnt on the front axle anymore but slightly behind it. The new A5 is praised for its handling, no more nose-heavy understeering like the older Audis.

Great, didnt know that. A step in the right direction (which for once is backwards, not forwards!).

Shame the A5 being a coupe can't be S2000 homologated though huh? Have to wait for the improvements to be passed on.

The Astra Sport Hatch is BTC-Touring (and currently used by Erkut).

The fact that its driven by Erkut makes the car longer actually. For you who knows your Invariant Theory should know what I mean.

The fact that the EK drives one? No - but the length rules might be affectc because it's BTC-T.
