They probably don't. They probably rehash a bunch of press releases that are sent to them.

Im happy that Level 5 took the decision to stay at home and support their own series . They should expect some good results there , and be part of the championship with their new machinery .

Great news for ALMS too . What does the latest entry list look like now ?

A blog completely fabricated a story that Drayson was coming to the ALMS. It is false, won't happen.

Expect

Cytosport
Dyson x1, second is possible, though no details announced.
I'd expect 3 cars on the grid.

LMP2
Level 5, Conquest, Black Swan

Possibly Newman/Haas Lola, the others are doubtful.

I think you have to wait another twelve months, P2 is gathering interest and could have a healthy field by 2013, but Muscle Milk and Dyson purchasing new cars can only be viewed as a show of faith by those with an eye on P1.

with all this new equipment sold, I suspect the most likely compromise for future years would be a combined class such as 2010. But only with their consent and obviously not this year.

What needs to be considered is P2's selling point is cost-capping, limitations on technology, engine life, Pro/Am drivers etc., P1's the other extreme, it's very different to the R10 vs RS Spyder rivalry.

Combining the LMP field could improve the entertainment short-term, but at the same time are you cutting off the very appeal that attracted Black Swan, and a potential new source of LMP teams.

Scratch one off the P1 list, Oryx moves to GT in Grand-Am with the R8.

Indeed and the teams that just bought a shining new LMP1 car, will not like when cost-capped LMP2s can suddenly race for overall victory

It's been said Dyson's second car was unrelated to Oryx.

I wonder if better exposure would have kept Oryx in? It doesn't seem like it, as they are unsponsored. Just seems that Humaid just didn't want to spend the big money anymore.

I think his decision definitely was based on money. If he wanted a chance to win, he would have stayed in the ALMS, however, he moved to grand am which is a lot less cheaper but more competitive.

Unless he's just leasing the R8, I'd guess he's spending as much as or more than he did to rent the Dyson Lola.

Certainly Grand-Am GT is deeper than ALMS P1. And I also want to correct myself, they now have Barrett-Jackson on-board as a sponsor, but I imagine splitting the bill between BJ and Humaid they still couldn't reach suitable P1 funding. Also BJ is on the network Grand-Am is broadcast on, good opportunity for marketing there...

So much for Le Mans being an unmatched draw.

Chris

EDIT: @extra: I don't know the numbers, but money was the motivating factor. Also, he will own the R8, and assuming it gets homologated, he can run Sebring, Petit and any ALMS rounds he chooses in addition to Daytona and the Grand-Am schedule in 2013.

Cheaper, deeper field, and more television time. Any of these, although I think money had the most to do with it, or all of them combined could have been the reason.

The question now is who occupies the second Dyson car in 2012 if there is one. The last thing the ALMS needs is to lose another LMP1 car.

I'm just throwing this out there, but I wonder if the potential second Dyson entry might be McMurray and Graham?

Dyson is taking Jay Cochran back on-board the #16 car for 2012 so it would seem that Dyson isn't full of cash exactly. My guess is that they are trying to woo more pay drivers.

As for Oryx, you have to wonder if he was at all cheesed about what went down at Laguna. Given that Dyson is doing the same thing in 2012 that they did in 2011 with Cochran, maybe he did not want to go down that route again.

Anyone else thinking that although Masaood will do Grand Am he may perhaps also be some of the rumoured funding Dyson has/is targeting for a Le Mans assault?
