Awesome weekend on Druids, some great racing and very busy indeed some nice Rally-cross from the VWs and FFords and some synchronised spinning in the F3 Cup added to the weekends entertainment

Comment of the week-end from someone connected with the Lester/Simmonson Ferrari. When collecting the wing mirror ('you can't imagine how much they cost') he was asked if they'd lost anything else.

'Only 2nd place.' came the reply.

If they follow the usual pattern they will show various races from the F3/GT meetings at the same time every week throughout the season.

It will be interesting to see which ball of spray won the second GT race!

I was on Druids.....................

Also I don't do pork pies or bacon butties - I got some danish pastries though!!

Thanks to everyone on Druids over the weekend - we were busy every day and did some serious car moving without vehicle intervention (muscles ache today!) - the rain on Monday just contributed to the incidents. All drivers ok and I must say very pleasant to the marshals and no serious damage to cars - all re-appeared in the next sessions they had.

There are some question marks over the weekend but I'm not going to raise them here but overall good meeting from my point of view

Indeed the marshals did a fantastic job at Druids with the amount of cars going off I'm surprised you weren't half dead by the end of the day...although I'm sure the average waistline would have gone down from the calories burnt off!

A pork pie was placed on the recticel right in front of the box at Old Hall just before the second race for the Ginetta's on Saturday,I swear within 6 mins we had TWO Ginetta's collide on the apex of the corner and one came in heavy on the next recticel!!!!
Never, never again will I doubt the pork pie urban legend!!

Monday was very busy,no surprise there!
On the first Volkswagen race car 69 tried with some help to leap over the pit lane armco barrier at the end of the concrete wall without success and how everyone missed him as he came back across the track is beyond me,then it was formation spinning and contacts with one car (No 42) facing the pit straight and two other cars obliged and hit him head on,Ouchh!!! Hence the S/C and live snatch.
It calmed down after that, met some old friends and met some new colleagues who i'm sure will become friends from Knockhill.
A great day was had by all,and i think ALL incident marshals had positive comments in their PRC's as all had attended incidents throughout the weekend.

Actually guys & gals, it was me on the pork pies @ Druids in on the flags. Although I did try & eat them discreetly, there must be some form of scent that arises from Mr Sainsburys finest that lures cars in.
However, there was some exuberant driving, optimistic cornering & some fumbling to try & find that elusive apex & that was just the safety car!
Never again will I utter those words to the incident marshals - 'Cheer up, only 2 minutes to go.' Now that seems like a cue for a driver to think, yup, 2 minutes, I'll pop in a fast one, I can nail Druids in the wet, no sweat.
On a more serious note, it was good to see teamwork with all the marshals getting down & dirty with the cars & no cross words to the drivers either. Good humour all weekend and thanks to JP & MSVR for the gesture of more pork based products for cold, wet marshals.

Meanwhile I continued to prove my personal pork pie immunity, working through a medium sized pie in four goes between sessions. Each of the following sessions were incident free, whereas any session where I didn't consume any beforehand produced an incident.

It did sound to be very busy down there!

I was on Avenue for the whole weekend, and with the exception of a nearly or two, it was incident free for me! I tried pork pies on all three days but to no avail. I will now stop on the pies as I really don't need to get any bigger!!!

Will not be back to Oulton until the Aston Martin's make their appearance in May now! See you there

I decided to watch Monday's first Formula Ford race from the inside of Druids. Decided I'd seen enough action in the first lap to not need to bother watching anymore!

Plenty of good marshalling from what I saw as I pedalled around, so well done all.

I'm amazed we only ended up with three in that session after nearly the entire pack went wide!

Some good advice on here for trainees and experienced marshals alike in terms of reacting to potential incidents. One comment made to me on my first day was the importance of watching what happens and for the first few meetings it's just as important to observe what other marshals are doing as that's how you can learn and hopefully become a better marshal. You can learn a lot more watching how incidents are dealt, whether good, bad or indifferent and then reflecting why people did what. As is often said the day when you stop learning is when its best to pack it all in.
We did have a laugh as well fun on the monday in the Rain..

Despite the general dampness I had a great day at Old Hall on Monday with Woolley (I think), and as usual, I learnt loads.

We did witness an 'equipment failure' when a colleague's broom head broke in two whilst sweeping up a Volkswagen though...

Aha, another face put to the name. Was a pleasure working with you.

The broom was especially good, although I was disappointed at our colleagues' reaction to the suggestion of getting down on their knees and using it as two scrubbing brushes.

I enjoyed calling in on the Monday but sorry I only saw a very select band of you as the rain kept us close to race control and Chequers!

Next outing will be the Historics at Donington.
