Feather in their cap to be quickest on the test day, as said though times will tumble when qualifying starts.........

The fastest P2 times were in the 3:31 range which is pretty dang quick for having those cars being slowed down. |

I quite liked this picture
https://twitter.com/24heuresdumans/s...345750531?s=09 And first time since the 1960's that an American team led a session at Le Mans? |

The disappointing thing for me was having no stream. With so many people having stayed at home, I really feel as though more could have been done, video-wise, especially bearing in mind the vantage point achieved by two of my pals which took my envy levels to previously unknown heights.....

Blow outs are relatively common at Le Mans, or seems that way. |

Do you thing anyone tried qualifying pace yet or were those fastest times in LMH set in longer runs?
I think you misunderstood my post. I strongly agree with you. The dreaded Spa24 SC procedure would ruin Le Mans. |

But Toyota and Glickenhaus were going for quicker laps near the end of the session. Alpine did their quickest earlier on, in the 3rd hour. Toyota #8 had fastest 1st and 3rd sectors. Interestingly this was not on their fastest lap. All this came in their final stint which was seven laps long. Fastest lap came in the middle of this stint and fastest 1st sector on the last lap. It’s hypothetical quickest lap was 1.1s quicker. The #7 didn’t look like it was going for times near the end. It’s theoretical FL looked like it could have been 0.7s quicker. Glickenhaus #708 had fastest lap and fastest 2nd sector, but like the Toyota the fastest sector was not on the fastest lap. It was also part of a longish stint of seven laps. This cars fastest sectors were all in a row, but split over two laps. It’s hypothetical quickest lap was about 0.8s quicker. #709 didn’t seem to be going for times near the end. It’s theoretical FL was only 0.2s quicker. So I think they tried, but not that hard. |

Fastest Laps
I looked at this properly now.
Glickenhaus has the theoretical fastest lap too. Other class theoretical poles are shown too. There is much to make this theoretical! These times are just the sum of the best sectors of each car over both sessions. It could be different times of day, different set-ups or different drivers. Shout out to #92 (Kevin ESTRE), #388 (Jeroen BLEEKEMOLEN) and #69 (Robert RENAUER) who's theoretical fastest was the actual fastest for that car.

I think Toyota (Hyp) and Corvette (GTE Pro) were sandbagging some today. Those two teams more than anybody else.

They were probably just going through their program and this doesn’t show their ultimately pace. Sandbagging to purposely hide their pace? Nah, they’ve got better things to do.

Let's see, Corvette has new car on top speed heavy track, new tire compound that's not used in IMSA, and making sure the car is set for the WEC BOP. Yeah, they have time to do all that and sandbag at Corvette. Improving times all week SHOULD be expected, they're learning what the car needs.

Already a tub change required for the #17 IDEC car. Not sure who was at fault for the collision with the #31 WRT - but that's a second chassis Merriman has been in that's needed rebuilding/replacing and he's yet to turn a racing lap at LM.

Below is the FL of each car and the stint length that it was set in. Of course, a short stint length doesn't mean they were low on fuel, or that they had new tyres, but... Certainly shows those that had a long stint, but still set the time.

Everyone's favorite topic. Stint Lengths!
There were some long runs, almost exclusively in the second session. Of these long runs all of them had at least one slow lap (defined here as 10% longer than the fastest lap of that car - so about 21s for LMP). Number in brackets are number of slow laps in the stint, excluding the out-lap. x show how many stints. LMP1 13 lap stints Toyota #8 x1 (4) 12 lap stints Toyota #7 x3 (1,2,2); the FL for this car was set in stint with only one slow lap Toyota #8 x1 (1) Glickenhaus #708 x1 (1) no 10 or 11 lap stints 9 lap stint Glickenhaus #708 x1 (2) 8 lap stint Alpine #36 x2 (1,2) The most the Glickenhaus #709 did was 7. The next highest the Alpine did was 6 laps x3. So it looks like the ACO have hit their intended 12 lap stints. Although a small question mark remains if they can do it under a flat out stint. Although it is clear that with a little SC /FCY longer is on. Alpine has only shown 8 so far, but didn't look like it was trying too hard and you'd have to think at least 10 is on. Glickenhaus hasn't been trying too hard for stint length too. Presumably concentrating on trying things on the car and sorting niggles (???). Especially on the #709, which was in and out all day. Going back to the lap times data above. It also seems that no one was doing anything that daft in LMP1 in terms of going for times either. With both Toyota and Glickenhaus setting there time during a long stint (especially with #7). Unlike in LMP2... Last edited by Adam43; 16 Aug 2021 at 03:16. |

And LMP2
13 lap stints United Autosports #23 x1 (5) 12 lap stints #22 United Autosport x2 (1,2) #26 G-Drive Racing x2 (4,2) #32 United Autosport x1 (3) #34 Inter Europol Competition x1 (4) #82 Risi Competizione x1 (1) 11 lap stints There were 41 "stints" of 11 laps by 20 different cars. Only 3 of these were without any "slow" laps. These were: #30 Duqueine Team (x2) #34 Inter Europol Competition And, unlike in Hypercar the fast times came in short stints. But three teams did set their fastest time within an 11 lap stint. Dunqueine, Inter Europol and JOTA. See table above. INNOVATIVE CAR #84 had a couple of 10 lap "stints", both with several "slow" laps (3, 6). Last edited by Adam43; 16 Aug 2021 at 03:15. Reason: . |

Laps completed
And who did the most laps? This is by teams. Obviously you have an advantage here if you have lots of cars.
I merged the obvious United and United USA, but didn't bother with any other relationships. Last edited by Adam43; 17 Aug 2021 at 21:58. Reason: Sp |
