peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
i would have though nascar was the best touring car championshiop in the world

(obviuysly this depends how you define best, but i choose to define it as most popular)
(and obviusly the use of the word touring car is used losely, but heck they are still tin tops no matter what way you look at it)

type NASCAR into your phone and you get marcas as one of your choices, its a sign i tell you

Relax people. The season is one day old!

Good on Marcos for giving it a go, he has as good a chnace of making it there as anyone else. He's a subline steerer and I am sure he acquit himself well in NASCAR.

I wonder if this will open the door for future drivers, the good thing is that Marcos is going at the height of his career, others that have tried where a little past their best.

I seem to recall in his interview at EC after winning last year, he said that although winning back to back it was less exciting than the previous year (not his exact words) and that he would continue in 2005 but beyond that he would see.

Tells me something was obviously on the cards back then ???

ambrose should show them a thing or two.
But NASCAR is not the best tourig car series anywhere- DTM is-followed by V8 supercars- wtcc, btcc, Speed TC....
NASCAR is an oval "stockcar silhoutte series." nothing touring car about them.
At least DTM has working doors and real working lights from the production car.
Ambrose should have the patience and the familiarity with big weight car and V8 torque to do well in this series, but can he draft in the ever aero dependent oval series?
why not try Nascar Craftsman Truck first? that place separates men from boys

Skaife backs Ambrose's NASCAR bid
March 6, 2005 - 3:04PM

Marcos Ambrose's V8 Supercar arch-rival Mark Skaife has given a ringing endorsement to the Ford star's bid to break into NASCAR racing in the United States next year.

Skaife said Ambrose had the ability to make it in the world's most popular saloon car racing series and that all the leading Australian V8 drivers could compete at any level worldwide if provided with the right car and backing.

Ambrose announced on Saturday he would quit V8 Supercar racing after this season to enter a development program to eventually drive in the NASCAR series.

And Holden's marquee driver said he would be cheering for his Ford rival as he attempted to break into NASCAR - saying it would be a great thing for the profile of Australian motorsport if Ambrose succeeded.

"Marcos has done a great job in the local competition, and the V8 Supercar competition is now at the highest level of touring car racing anywhere in the world," Skaife said.

"If he wants to go and have a go against those guys (in NASCAR), my hand is up saying 'all the best and get into them'.
"Any of the top guys from this series will win races in any category in the world if they are in the right car.

"On the road courses Marcos will give them a hosing and if he's in good cars in the rest of the races, I'm sure he'll show the depth of talent here."

It's likely to be the only leg-up Ambrose gets from Skaife this year if the resurgent five-time champion's performance at the pre-season hitout at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend is any guide.

Skaife beat Ambrose home in the 10-lap race, producing a stunning passing manoeuvre on the defending champion early in the race to take the lead and hold it to the finish.

After a dreadful season in 2004, Skaife clearly has the car and the motivation to give Ambrose and Ford a run for their money when the championship proper starts in Adelaide in a fortnight.

Skaife's Holden Racing teammate Todd Kelly won the first of the three races this weekend, with Skaife recording a win and two thirds to already have Ambrose on his toes as he aims for his third successive title.

"He just outfoxed me there in turn one - I'm a bit sheepish over that," Ambrose said of the passing move.

"It's been a great battle with Mark all weekend.

"Mark looks like he's bounced back pretty well and started the year soundly."

Ambrose's teammate Russell Ingall finished third in the race.

Veteran John Bowe won race two on Saturday, with none of the three races counting for championship points.

There is some noise around that is suggesting that Ambrose's recent trip for his honeymoon/Daytona drive in the US was a toe dipping excerise looking at NASCAR .

......and what ever happened there convinced him to take this decision.

I can't see how he would be moving to the USA without some type of drive being a done deal. If he doesn't have a deal he's kidding himself.
A bit of FORD leverage as it says (somewhere)
