Ferrari N.V. (RACE) Q1 2021 Earnings Call Transcript:

John Elkann -- Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

So there are big discussions at the moment on the future of Formula One, and we are very much present in that conversation with the ambition and aspiration of being absolutely carbon neutral as a sport and as our activity is linked to that sport. So that is exactly the direction of travel. It will be hybrid technologies, and those hybrid technologies are very important within the V6 because that is the same capabilities that we will be using for our other motor sports activities. As you know, we announced that we will be entering the Endurance arena and also in terms of our road cars, which will have V6 hybrids. So no doubt that the thread from a technical and technological standpoint is there.

Interesting. Wonder if that means theyll use the tech learned in f1 or an engine related to f1, turbo v6?

So AF Corse it is then - http://www.dailysportscar.com/2021/0...programme.html

Not really sure what to make of this. After being told for years that AF Corse aren't a works factory outfit, but if there was a Ferrari works outfit it would look very much like AF Corse...

Are AF Corse now a works factory outfit?

For the last time, AF Corse is NOT a Ferrari works team, they just happen to use the same letterheads... It's all just a big coincidence really

Looks like a no-brainer to me, if even unrelated LMP2 efforts seek AF Corse services to run the team.

Seems Risi are trying to get the same kind of gig for IMSA.

They've unofficially been Ferrari's WRT ("We're not a works team. That massive pile of cash? Errr, it was a gift.") for at least a decade.

I suppose it's official now.

A work team is the internal racing department of a manufacturer that fields their cars in grid and directly conducts all operations related to the racing program inside and outside the track (logistics, race managment, design and development of the car etc..).
Porsche Team during 919 years was a 100% work team.

An official team is a third party racing team that a manufacturer hires and directly supports providing them cars + work drivers and engineers to be represented in a given racing program. Core autosport was until last year porsche official team in IMSA (branded as porsche NA) as AF corse is from years ferrari competizioni GT official team in WEC gt-pro.

There is also a third way in between like toyota, with part of the designing process made by the internal manufacturer racing department and its partners (ICE + hybrid) and an external subsidiary appointed to chassis/aero design + race program managment supported by work assets (drivers, engineers etc...).
Something similiar about audi sport with team joest, with the latter as a third party hired team, deeply involved in logistics and racing program managment.

In case of 2023 hypercar program, AF Corse will likely keep on doing what currently does in GT, it will just change type of cars.

AF corse and WRT are basically in the same business...
they are hired by ferrari and audi to represent them with a couple of cars as official teams and at the same time both of them have their pro-am customer programs.

I mean beyond us anoraks, who will really care? The majority of the paying public will see a red Ferrari, racing under the Ferrari name, with the Italian flag. That would be most people's definition of 'works.'

Indeed so, but never forget, the anoraks rule the social media and must take very seriously their duty to correct any inaccuracy for the benefit of those not similarly garbed...

Hybrid twin-turbo V6 Ferrari to debut in mid-June. RWD-only though. Sounds like it was originally scheduled for a Le Mans reveal.

https://drivetribe.com/p/ferraris-v6...RnSwf9ic1XwcFw

The car is unlikely to actually go on sale until late 2022. Just in time for the LMH tied promotion. Perhaps they'll even share a name.

This car is the future replacement for the F8, Ferrari's basic car and has nothing to do with the LMH.
The latest news I read, Ferrari had not yet decided whether to use a Prototype or a derivative of the next Hypercar (the replacement for Laferrari, which will arrive in 2023) in LMH.

I never suggested they'll use the actual road car as a base. I meant a tie up in terms of the general drivetrain concept, styling and promotion.

Somehow, I very much doubt we'll ever see a roadcar-based LMH from any manufacturer.

I guess Ferrari could do a short series in a high price.

The last April 1 Antonello Coletta declining to specify whether it will use a road-going product as a base or come up with a pure prototype featuring road model styling cues.
When Sportscar 365 asked which subset of the LMH technical rules Ferrari will be following, Coletta said: “I prefer to answer this question in the future.
“Now we consider both ideas. Honestly – in my head – the solution is clear. But for the moment I prefer to maintain a cover on this decision.”

rossi took part to a couple of BES races back in 2012 and once or twice ran in 12H abu dhabi... but please don't get too hyped, driving skillswise, rossi is just a silver driver like many others.
He recently got tons of petrodollars for his new motogp team, if he would like to make a WEC season, he just needs to throw some coins to kessel or af corse to use one of their 488

I could see Raikkonen joining them. He seems like a good candidate when he's done with f1. Rossi would be nice, I think with enough testing and practice he could be there.

Yeah I could see this happening too; he already has Ferrari ties (their last champion), I assume eventually Kimi will get sick of always finishing at the back of the F1 field, and as his children get older, he'll want to spend more time with them, and an WEC (and maybe IMSA) schedule would be much more conducive to that than a jam-packed F1 schedule.

raikkonen tested a 908 back in 2011 summer but he then kept with WRC before joining back f1 with renault in 2012. Like jenson button he has always had a "gentle" tires saving style that could fit well for endurance, but I don't think he could have the right mental approach and attitude for nowadays endurance races... he doesn't even hide the fact he's still driving more for passion than ambition, if a mediocre driver like giovinazzi can beat him regularly, it tells a lot about raikkonen's actual motivation
