Thinking about the Sanglia. It's not all that strange when you consider that the engine was a Ford V8. And they were a pretty rugged car. Makes my "Carlos Fandango" 1500 from '75 seem a bit tame though.

Do you remember this mini fitted with 1800cc engine, when I saw it at Brands, I'm sure the rear of the car had standard wheels looked really funny going along the main straight.

1967 This one folded quite well. It's Maudling's Anglia after a crash with Sandilands and Sanger at Brands, the race was stopped.

I'm very saddened. I had no idea Bill Nicholson was gone.

He was a fixture in the grids of modified sports cars throughout the seventies, and I rather suspect before that too. Wasn't "286FAC" his car?

Slightly on/off topic. I've just come back to the office from a short trip down the Chiswick High Road. The old Chequered Flag Garage is no more but in its place is a BMW Mini dealership.

Just getting nostalgic there.

I think the Cortina V8 is the Sanger/ Merfield / Bolton car pictured earlier in this thread. The wide Anglia sounds like the car of Maurice Winch.
Yes, great photos....

Some excellent pics here!

Does anybody know of any books featuring cars of this era?

There used to be a caar called the 'Janglia' (reiterating an earlier thread of mine). It was an Anglia with a Jaguar engine. For years the shell sat on top of a bus in Blair & Palmers garage in Carlisle - I can remember being quite taken by it when I was a kid - if I'd been older I'd have tried to buy it - sadly it disappeared when the area was modernised.

As an aside, my dad told me of a great weight saving trick a friend of his used in those days (it might even have been on the Janglia). They took the plastic rimmed steering wheel and set fire to it! The driver drove using the wire inner core of the wheel. Try getting *that* through scrutineering!
