Also not to collect a sack load of penalties. Some of the final results sheets look like a lottery of penalties has been randomly distributed. Either that or a lot of people are "very naughty boys".
[/QUOTE] Drivers are either unaware of forget that all of Mr Palmers circuits have cameras, no need for human eyes, as a Clerk I get photographic proof of 2 or more wheels off, and then follow the Blue Book, showing the offender black & white flag, 5 second penalty, 10 second penalty, Drive Through and then finally on Sunday afternoon to one car the black flag. When will you learn? Most of the other penalties were for cars overtaking under the Safety Car, mainly on the lap it was coming in. At the end of the race the Timekeeper gives me a sheet showing all the cars that had overtaken before they should have on the restart, or any when else. |

Quote Peter Mallett "on one particular lap I overtook a blue Elan at Coppice and ran down to the chicane where I came up behind a B, when I tried to out brake the B , the Elan shot in front of both of us and having better brakes, brake tested both of us, just as a line of faster cars took advantage! I came through the chicane off cam and lost a bit of time. But crucially it was all clean and no contact whatsoever. This would be the story of my stint, because every time I got into position to overtake, the race leaders or the faster cars would bring out the blue flags so progress was hampered"
I can empathise with this - I kept catching the red Dolly Sprint, only to be "too gentlemanly" leaving space for a quicker car, or, frequently at Coppice and the chicane, having a quicker car blast past and then stand on the brakes way earlier than I wanted to, blocking me and leaving me scrabbling to regain momentum All very clean, though....although I nearly ended in the boot of the Skyline who really chopped me into the chicane |

To be fair, there were so many black tyre marks all over the apexes that most of the time I couldn't tell if I was inside, on or over the relevant line. More by luck than judgement I seem to have got away with it ! |

Not Gilbert, but a nice photo of Mike's Hairy Canary Escort now owned by Nick Whale accompanies a short piece by Paul Lawrence in the latest Autosport (3 June, page 55). Paul, of course, makes reference to the colour and Mike having been a Norwich football fan.

I had a lovely weekend at Cadwell chatting to Jerry Knight. He was telling me stories on how Mike got merry one evening on his home made trifle. " think it was rigged with a fair bit of alcohol ". Lovely memories. Thanks Jerry.

d was Just caught up with Donington footage. Gilbert looked gorgeous and was driven tidily and stylishly. Credit to all involved. I think that Mike would have been quietly proud.
Just noticed that the Whales have entered Lairy Canary for Thruxton. Guaranteed class win. I feel another calendar coming on. P.S. Bloody painful and slow, keyboading with a freshly broken collarbone. Not recommended at all. |

Not bad at all for a first outing - close to some of the 3 litre cars! Getting a red flag on the first run can't have helped, either....

Gilbert,Me ,Mary and David enjoying a break and the sun at Wiscombe. One of the most enjoyable days motor racing I have ever had.I never thought I would like Hill climbing but getting hooked. You might only get a few runs of less than a Minuit but for that time you have to be 100% focused. No run offs like racing just good old straw bales and solid wood to crash into. Total respect for the quick guys. Last edited by delta; 7 Sep 2021 at 16:15. |

Glad the sun shone for you... the course (and the paddock) can be quite a challenge in the wet. Well done to Mary as well. Great debut. ps if you are getting the hillclimb bug Iain, try Loton Park. You would love it. Last edited by E.B; 8 Sep 2021 at 06:51. |

I've never done any sprints or hillclimbs either, though marshalled a few hillclimbs, but I was discussing earlier this week with my race partner that if he feels he's had enough of racing we could maybe do a few hillclimbs.
I'm trying to promote them as entry-level motorsport to my Alfa Romeo OC members, too...... Great pic, anyway, Iain |

Probably an age thing Lanky . I never ever thought I would like all the hanging around but it’s just so nice to have time and chat . My problem is getting motivated again after an hours break . I was at the front of my batch so got out of Gilbert at the end and had a chance to spectate before the run back down

What a weekend that was and to think I wanted to pull out as i really did not feel ready, I had only driven Gilbert once earlier in the week and did not really feel in control!! The Red flag on the practice run had them worried, but great another run. My times were slow I just could not master the esses, I blame the red flag incident as that was where I was stopped however the last straight after sawbench was a thrill and I did get faster. So not so scary after all.
