Which meant that he felt entitled to break the rules in a crude and incredibly dangerous way. It's like saying Watergate was OK because Nixon got screwed by Kennedy in 1960 election.

Senna however did act against the parties that had screwed him over, Mssrs. Prost and Balestre as President of the FIA. Not saying that two wrongs made a right, merely that Senna felt he was being unfairly treated, which he was, and bit back. Nixon's actions would have been against an unrelated third party who had in no way wronged him. |

[QUOTE=stripedcat;3633171] Sure - he had the best car - but I think that has always been the way in F1
Not at the Nurburgring in '57 he didn't. Just the biggest balls. |

Yes Fangio did say he never drove like that before and never wanted to again

I was never a Senna fan, but I think his death robbed us of what could have been a titanic showdown between Senna - starting to show his age? - and Schumacher, very much the coming man.

Even in '58, his final racing year, Fangio showed sparks of talent.
Because he finished on points on both WC races he entered, with not clearly the best car (Ferrari, Vanwall and even Cooper were best cars rather than his private 250F then). Alas, his last ever win is the 1958 Buenos Aires GP, non-champ one. Also for his trying at IndyCars with approach to the Indy 500, where he didn't enter finally, and the Race of Two Worlds, where he did the qualifying best time at the Monza oval. |

No problem choosing Fangio... What really makes wonder what is the reason for such study, if we can call it that. Is that addiction for making lists ?

Why would working out the worlds greatest driver be any sort of a challenge? |

On the subject of the world's greatest GP drivers, there is a repeat of a programme about Jim Clark on BBC 4 at 22.00 hrs today for those that haven't seen it, or want to see it again.
