Birddog07 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Well for me the speed and change of direction is spectacular what F1 cars can do. Some of the turns at Spa you'd consider maybe lifting in a road car, thease guys blaze through them at 180mph. I love that, and while it may be 'easier' for the drivers, it is spectacular for the fans. If I want to really see the cars at a race I buy the paddock pass. On track I want them to be speeding.

Only very few tracks are to all of us. We'll keep changing them untill they are good to all.

Looks like something I've seen before. What is you planned length, evevation changes, vegitation around the track, etc?

Interesting, the "Ninety" is obviously less than 90 degrees :P

Really, no-one at the design process or the construction of Watkins Glen had a ruler or a protactor???

Of course they didn't but that doesn't matter for the ninety either as it's of a later date. The designer usually doesn't give the names to the corners anyway, they just come over time as the drivers, fans and commentators need the recognizability.

The cars going around it actually turn more than 90 degrees.

Well, I did some small pseudotechnical drawing, so the corner degrees will be more clear now

So, in fact, we measure the "turn angle" (the external one), and not the way we were taught in school

And "The Ninety" should be called "The OverNinety", not "The LessThanNinety" really

As for the Austin track, what I would really like to do is chop the bottom portion off. I haven't sorted out the exact sequencing of corners, but I would have the track turn back on itself. Turn 2 would be loosened up, like in Quintin's illustration, but I would not retain the Istanbul Turn 8 look-alike, but rather have that be a fast 90 to the right following the quick, roughly 90, left-hand corner at the end of the back straight that bypasses the arena section. I would reposition the start straight to be nearly parallel with the end of the back stretch.

P.S. What program are you guys using to make those rudimentary edits of the track diagram?

I'm guessing paint for most of them? Also MS Excel is great for making Wikipedia-style tracks - then taking a screenshot of that and putting it into paint to add the extra details works nicely for me - its how I did my "Dayseca" track.

I usually use Paint.net and I can really recommend it. It's like the Sketchup of the image editing software, free and easy to use.

Well not much going on here at the moment, so I thought I'd pop this edit of the Hungaroring to get everyone talking.

It's meant to be faster and offer a few more obvious overtaking spots. I realise that the Hungaroring is a bit of a funny circuit - some seem to love it, and others hate it. Personally, I think it's a bit weird, and perhaps challenging in its current configuration.

I offer this then as a possible alternative rather than perhaps what I think the circuit should look like.

Way to go you managed to remove every challenging and interesting corner on that track and replace it with boring straights. Everyone seems to think that the hungaroring needs changing but IMO the trwck is an F1 classic just as it is.

I'd say, if we are about to speed the track up and pep it up with more overtaking opportunities, then this is a very good concept. Plus, I checked it in Gmaps and found that the land where the extra section would go (on the right) is crops, so i guess it would be only a question of money to purchase it...

On the other hand, of course, if we like the technical nature of Hungaroring, then tlongman is right.

I say keep it as it is, if anything is going to be done, the infield is where it should go, IMO.
