It was a difficult one but Kubica got my vote.
Others who impressed was Heikie and Sutil. Kimi had a flawless race and Massa was up there with him beating the McFerarri's 6-0. |

Sutil - too fun watching him wring the neck of that car.

can't vote yet;
Sutil, magic. Webber, solid and a great move. Rosberg, I loved his dad and he's stirrring the juices again. (No you wallies this is not a News of the World moment). Kubica drove the nuts off the car. Alonso did exactly what you'd expect of a champion. Heiki blew Fisi away. Please let him retire Flav. Kimi was peerless. Massa was great fun. Like Martin B I want to give it to Mark but just has he gets my vote Rosberg steps in and steals it. Bugger! |

Sutil gets my vote - he's doing a good job in the Spyker Good shows for Kimi, Heikki, Alonso, Heidfeld, Kubica and Rosberg as well.

Oh BTW I do my own ironing too, I wouldn't let my missus do it anyway and I agree it's very therapeutic. |

How could I vote for any one other than my man Felipe. He might not have won, but he was still the dotr in my eyes. Remember, I'm completely bias and I'm no ashamed of it. I also could not stand seeing he had no votes.

That's quite admirable, maybe I should add Ralf to the options...no? You don't think? Anybody care to venture a vote for poor Lewis, the only driver still on 0?

No, lets keep him on 0 votes. For once he really wasn't even close to the best.
I just want to add, I hate ironing. It's not therapeutic at all. Last edited by Felipe Rulz; 18 Sep 2007 at 14:57. |

It certainly demonstrates how much people have come to expect of Lewis when qualifying and finishing 4th is considered to be a poor result! Honda would probably hire Nigel Stepney, Mike Coughlan and Pedro de la Rosa if they were guaranteed results like that.

I thought they had!
At least I understand Stepney is being employed outside of motorsport. |

Ralf's girl, I don't want to dwell on it, but it's nothing really to do with Lewis...more the fact he has a car to do well in.
Nobody really expected a lot of Fisi to be that great, but he was at least expected to be up there with Alonso when they were at Renault together. The same goes for Lewis...rookie or otherwise. They are in equal equipment after all...and if you're naturally good and the car is as good as the McLaren, it shouldn't matter generally during races whether you're a rookie or not. It's only when it comes to the harsh end of a championship or difficult race circumstances does "experience" come into play. Maybe I'm one of those people who can't hold a romantic view of Lewis being the most sensational rookie there has ever been, or even sucessful, simply by seeing how good the car is. That's not to say Lewis isn't very good...because he certainly is...it's just that the comparitive credit as a rookie is just a bit disproportionate I feel considering the circumstances he's landed himself in. So now we've only got 3 races to go and he's already won 3 races in 14, of course people expect him to have done better at Monza and Spa, regardless if whether he's a rookie or not. I really do think by now the latter shouldn't be an issue anymore if you've got a comfortably brilliant car underneath you. |

There is, though, a tendency to forget that he hasn't even had a full season in F1 yet - he hasn't raced on every track and he doesn't have the level of experience that those he's racing against do. So even taking into account the quality of the equipment and personnel available to him, he's still relatively new to the sport without being allowed the usual room for error that rookies usually get.

That's very true. I think we can disregard the factor of not having raced on every track, because the McLaren simulator takes care of that.
The thing that interests me is that he doesn't seems to make any mistakes of consequence, which is not what you'd expect. When he won the UK Formula Renault title, there was a stutter and a few mistakes to begin with. In his first year in F3 he was arguably not with the best team, so he didn't win everything but he learned all he needed to and, having switched teams over the winter, won the F3 Euro Series title in his second year. As we know, he won the GP2 title at the first attempt and now he's headed in the same direction in his first year of F1, which no-one expected except perhaps he and his Dad. For a number of reasons, I think it might better if he didn't win the title this year. I wouldn't like to guess how many titles he will win, but losing out this year, being beaten by his team-mate for the first time, might just make him an even better driver in the years to come. Scary thought. |
