Yup, Even I just got the news. AVESCO have just signed 5 year deal with Tassy Premier to race at Symmonds Plains. Upwards of $2 Mill will be spent on upgrading this choice facility. Marcus A said to be delighted to be returning to his home State AND with the No 1 on his car. The race at Symmonds will be Round 12, In place of China. Hmmmmm. Thinks.... 5 year deal in Tassy, Wot about China then (assuming they ever get it finished)Dead Duck.??

BAZ I think you will find that Symmons is replacing another circuit, I wouldn't like to say which one but from another Forum it may be in NSW.

47 things on TC's list to be fixed at SP.
New pit entry - 32 pit garages - toilets etc not much this first year as the wet season is due? The Championship will not go past 14 Rounds(including the GP)until at least 2007 when a new TV deal comes on board. A decisions will be made next wed on what round will be dropped. |

So Symmons Plains it is. Excellent - now a race in every state.
But if the agreement is for 5 years, which round makes way for the China round? The obvious choice outside of those who make the decisions is Eastern Creek Part II. But that was also the obvious choice before, when PI was dropped for whatever reasons. Certain influential people are clearly keen on EC. So which is on shaky ground? TC made a point about having a round in every state - so those with only one round look safe. Qld only has 2 - but the Indy round is safe, so Queensland Raceway is probably secure. That leaves NSW and Vic. If ECx2 stay, Bathurst is home and hosed - what about Oran Park? Sandown is equally home and hosed, as is the Grand Prix race (although not a point scoring round). That makes Winton shaky!!!! Especially if the number of rounds in Vic is not to go above three, with the rejuvenated PI still pushing for a return in the future. I guess we are going to find out if TC likes Winton or Oran Park better unless EC2 ceases to be a protected species. |

Oran Parks days are numbered, I read a story in the paper a couple of weeks back talking about Sydneys future growth areas and the map showed a new town called ......
Oran Park! |

Imagine building a whole new pitlane only to be dumped three years later.

Isn't that new pitlane like the mother of all mecano sets falc? ie. can be pulled down and reconstructed elsewhere?

I'd be very surprised if they dropped EC2 next year then Oran Park the next, leaving only 2 rounds in NSW. I wouldn't be surprised to see Winton get the flick next year (despite what Brad Jones has said - he's not likely to nominate Winton for elimination). Then a return to PI the following year in place of Oran Park? Maybe a later swap of EC2 for the Auckland street circuit????? Interesting |

So if SP is in this year to replace China and gets a 5 year gig and assuming China goes ahead next year and assuming the championship is to reamin at 14 rounds, won't two rounds need to be dropped next year?
One to make way for SP and one to make way for China. And if NZ gets a second round ???? |

Get your calculator out bestfit.
Currently there are only 13 rounds for points (AGP is not for points). Symmons Plains HAS replaced China this year, so they only need to drop one round to make way for China to get back on the list. |

I mentioned this elsewhere that Avesco/TEGA are going to decide next week which round to drop - the only thing being will they announce it next week .

A 20 round series is not impossible... if you thought about this, if the promoters are paying for travel costs for the additional rounds for cars, equipment and staff, then the running costs are the true expenses for these rounds.
If you dissected an operating budget of say $3m a year, around 40% is likely wages, say another 20% in fixed expenses that stay the same regardless of the number of rounds, meaning $1.2m is the actual cost of running the car. $1.2m / 14 meetings = $85,714/round/car So to expand an additional 6 meetings, the teams need around another $500k in budget... or thereabouts.... Its not going to come commercially, some teams are at the top end of what can be achieved there, so the likes of Unky TC and the AVESCO cash collector will have to find ways to source that kind of funding, per car, back to the teams $500k x 35 cars = $17.5m Now I played roulette at Star City recently, if TC puts $500k on a number of his choice.... |
