^ I think 2007 rather than 2006 makes sense for Bourdais.

But really what does Bourdais have left to proof here. he has shown us that he can be an extremely smooth driver (2004) and that he can go toe to toe with the infamous Paul Tracy and come out on top. There really is nothing for him to proof, he already showed that he can use his talent and his teams domination to wi9n the championship.

His age I think will be his major stumbling block.

On the other hand, Bernie Ecclestone has said that F1 could use a French driver. As much as I hate to say it, Bourdais would be the most logical choice. Besdes, even he has said that he'd like to shoot for F1.

The difference being that Tiago has GALP paying for his ride which made Jordan forget about his age or prior achievements. The point made by enemy-ace is for drivers wanting a drive on merit (and a carrier to follow) not buy riders.
You have to feel for Seb though, I mean what more could he possibly have done to prove himself. Champion in F3, champion in F3000, double champion in Champ Car yet Briatore and Faure pretty much destroyed his F1 future... |

Franck Montagny might be looking towards Champ Car, according to GrandPrix.com.

There seems to be some confusion with Montagny, as he was told he was not required anymore by Renault but now have called him back for the early December tests. (Theory being that he is needed because Kovalainen might be going to BMW)

Montiero has done quite well in F1 once he's got in, and opn paper Bourdais would be faster straight away. Other than maybe Liuzzi he's surely mroe talented than any of 2005's F1 rookies, but all the others bought their drives to some extent. He would make a lot of sense for BMW, be it 2006 or 2007. He's probably feeling that he needs a new challenge and has proven himself in ChampCars.

It would be a real shame if Bourdais never got a shot at F1. He has nothing more to prove that he's worthy of a seat.

Absolutely right Omega. Bourdais has commercial and racing value to F1, and in some ways it would be better for ChampCar for him to leave - especially to F1.

da Matta actually did a lot better than people think. His results and overall pace were very similar to the much more experienced Panis, and his early departure was political as much as anything. In any case, Bourdais has a much stronger record from F3000 and below - F1 has been slack in giving those champions a run in recent years, which is why ChampCar has 4 of them.

I am hearing that the Briscoe to Champ Car thing is looking increasingly likely - most probably with PKV on a loan deal from Toyota.

At this point in time Ryan is still a Toyota-contracted driver.

Toyota have no real use for him now, unless they want to put him back in the F1 fold. If he's going to PKV, I geuss that means Vasser retiring and/or da Matta mvoing on?

Perhaps after all that is what sparked the whole "Ganassi to Champcar" rumour, Chip felt Ryan was a better road racer than oval racer and began negociating to have him loaned out, then it was seen as Chip thinking about Champcar when he really was just trying to offload a driver.... :S |

World Series by Renault racer Simon Pagenaud is aiming for Champ Car. Right now it seems he'll do the Formula Atlantics in 2006 with hopes of eventually moving up to Champ Car.
SpeedTV.com has an article about it. |

The article on SpeedTV.com about Katherine Legge's F-1 test includes this rather interesting tidbit:

I think she's still a little raw. I think she probably has the elements there, but IMO her Atlantics season shows that she needs another year.

In Autosport Today Kevin K says there probably won't be any new teams in 2006 (bit of a Bummer really) because of the high start up costs for buying a Lola for just one year etc....(tell 'em to get a Reynard then! ) but already TWO Atlantic teams have contacted him about running in 2007........
I wonder just how many cars we'll have in 2007.....the Sky's the limit it seems! |
