Hi, thanks for the reply.
It is PI toolbox version 6.1
I have time comparison of the laps already done, but need to think of something else

Have you tried using Pi Vids video synchronised system? When doing a time compare,Vids 2 is very, very useful as the driver can see exactly what he is doing wrong. The trouble with a standard video camera is that it has limited use without being synchronised to data, hence Vids 2 being so useful.

Possibly a dumb question but do you have the 'compare lap time difference' channel being displayed?

Comparing a good and a bad lap and showing graphically sudden jumps in time lost/gained and then showing the steering/braking/throttle differences is a good tool.

Another useful tool is Chasecam do some software (Dashware) that allows video footage and data to be combined to produce overlay displays like you get in F1/BTCC. A bit clunkier than Vids but a lot cheaper and more flexible.

Pi Compact Logger

I have bought a second hand one of these PI Compact Logger which uses a card to download data to a lap top.

Can anyone advise if I need additional software to Pi Club Expert to link to the card?

Next question is if I do can anyone supply me with a copy of the software?

Many thanks.

Woohoo, my specialist subject!

Yes you do.

You need the compact CAN logger software than would normally come with it. Once the CF card is plugged into your PC you can use this to download the files and then view them from within Pi Club Expert.

The alternative, which is what I do, is to use Pi Toolbox and the Pi Card Management utility and get a whole new level of toys to play with. This costs about £500 (from memory) so possibly not an option.

The version of the compact CAN logger software you need depends on the version of CAN logger you have. Your first port of call is Cosworth themselves to see if they can supply you with a link to download, they'll need the serial number and firmware version.

Thanks for this. I do have Pi Toolbox as well as Club Expert on my lap top so from what you say I should be OK using that.

I guess the facility is built into Toolbox for the removable card option on the Delta logger.

Or the DB1 card logger, which bares a REMARKABLE similarity to the Compact logger

When you have it up and running let me know if you need any maths channels to sort out a few bits and pieces that are missing.

quick start slowed down

I did not even expect to find such a supporting community for Pi products...
Really amazed. Hope I won't abuse your patience...

To begin I have a used SQ6m ECU with logger delivered to me yesterday.
I happily downloaded the Toolbox (certainly a lite version :-)) to discover that after installation on Win7x64 it shows side-by-side error on launch.

Did any one experience such an error. I did all the trics found on web to solve that general error but to no avail...

Thanks in advance,
Kirill

Not had that problem on Win 7 x64. Post up a screenshot of the error.

Pi Delta Data Logger USB issue

Hello!! It’s my first time posting on here and I hope someone can help me.

I'm working on a student project using Pi delta as my data logger. It was successfully installed in a vehicle last year and was working brilliantly. Now it’s my turn to take charge my issue is when starting the vehicle the data logger boots up fine and flashes twice, meaning that the logger is in a 'normal' state. When I connect the usb to my laptop (windows 7 operating system) it says 'USB device not recognized'.

Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this issue?

Regards
JD

what has changed since it last worked?

is it the same laptop as previously worked with the logger?
same software version of delta LMS?
have you tried a different USB port?
same operating system on the laptop?
are you selecting the correct "disk" in LMS?

does the colour indicator in the top left of LMS do anything when connected?

if its a new install on a laptop has it installed correctly? you could try running it in winxp compatability mode

To do Professional Toolbox you will need a dongle (mine is USB type) pictured, and what it allows in Toolbox once you have this you are on the way to the #1 in this field

Some better screen set ups and comparisons to multiple laps & different drivers.
Nice to have good electronics package

My set up

Lucky so and so...I could only stretch to a secondhand T6, compact logger and lite.

Still pretty good though.

I haven't experienced the error mentioned. Also on W7 64 bit.

Absolutely its good with any Pectel ECU and Toolbox congrats.

On a side note, I have delt with Tony Kent, but he is not got back to me on the supply of some connectors I need (Autosport + one for my DB1-RSHE) do any of you boys supply them or know of people who are good with that.

Personally I only just started using the Pi Toolbox, but I have used VBOX Tools (since 2006) and run lots of my own maths channels etc, so its not too hard to adapt to this one, I did that help tutorial and smashed up those screens in one night or so. Looking ahead to developing lots of workbooks and making plenty of use of the superiority of the Pi Research system....... sure as hell beats anything else out there

How can I benefit from Math Channels, I drag race and have a SQ6 & DB1 logger along with a PI Dash.

What exactly does PI Math channels do? Does it only show vehicle acceleration and acceleration based parameters?

A mate of mine ran a drag car - national record holder - and he could never quite figure out why it wouldn't go quicker. One run with a logger and the clutch slip it showed had the answer. AIM do a dedicated drag logger but I know nothing about it.

A PI maths channel can do pretty much anything you want.

For example -

Take rpm and wheel speed and calculate gear.
Take speed and calculate acceleration/deceleration.
Take steering and speed and calculate speed adjusted steering.
Take current lap and previous lap parameter and compare the difference.

The list is limited by your imagination/mathematical ability (or a search on google).

My most used channel is calculating time gained or lost compared to a reference lap.

Hi there,
I need some help creating a math channel.

I need a if/then condition.

If "channel XY" value is "0" then print "1"

Diagramm : "channel XY" over the time

I hope you could understand what I mean.

Thanks for your help

Kind regards

Martin

getting my head confused, couldnt get it to go to 1 with a value of exactly 0, could only get it to work with =< or => for some reason it doesnt like an = on its own

i guess

[channel xy] =< 0

would do the job, toolbox doesnt ask for if statements in a 'normal' if statement format

Math channel "rolling factor"

Hi there,
this is not the math channel I´m looking for. Maybe my description was wrong.

I need a channel where I could see the car is rolling.

If "throttle" and "brake pressure" is "zero" then print "1".

I hope you could understand what I mean.

I´m glad to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Martin

Velocity/Speed from Long Accel

Ok, this is probably a stupid question but, does anyone know if you can write a math channel in Toolbox that would convert Long Accel to Speed or Velocity? I am thinking through a calculus function you might be able to. However I'm not smart enough to be able to do it or know if I can.

Bit of a thread from the dead really...
I'm also a student using Pi Toolbox through a simulator as a part of one if my modules.

Could anyone post a few useful maths channels please?
Anything that can be used to help a driver go faster other than the standard channels and comparing time please.

Thanks

PI Compact Logger error light

Hello,
I have a compact logger and X-Sport Dash that has been working well. However we lost our card and have had problems with the error light being on!
The Logger has been back to Cosworth and is fine,I have new Sandisk Cards. Do I need to format them to Fat 16? How can I check this out.
Also I read that the Card offload tool place two files on the card...I can only see one.
Desperate for help
