Auto action is suggesting that Aust GT will now be on the Supercars program at PI in April
because they were approached by a group of competitors who wanted to appear at a supercars event as it was appropriate for their sponsors |

It is a tricky one, it is easy enough to the see the arguments on all sides, and there is no right answer.
Going it alone will be tough but good reap rewards. Being a "support" category has its own compromises but it is also fairly safe and well known. |

A combination of all of the events is a good outcome for all the teams, drivers and sponsors - AGT management working with its teams to provide for them. Good business.
The loss of a Queensland race for another Victorian event might not be though - however probably the lesser of 2 evils. |

Quite serious unrest from some teams according to AA's reporting.

Yeah very odd. Strange that this is only coming to ahead now considering the schedule was announced in October or November last year from memory?
How many teams are relying so heavily on corporate sponsorships? You would imagine Walkinshaw and Tekno would be ones pushing this however when speaking to Speedcafe, Jono Webb didnt seem that upset by it all? |

You'd think a good chunk are MD's of the companies on the side of the car but not all. Plus many of them want their company on TV to justify the spend I guess.
i am not sure that this isn't conflating the 2 issues being discussed, I think these were the 2 most critical of the sprint race driving standards, but I find that ironic because most of the damage at Highlands was due to WP's driver! |

Is it to justify the spend (ie build a return on investment) or provide the associated tax write off? Many of these competitors (MDs of companies) were racing the GTs well before they raced some rounds on the V8SC schedule.

They get the tax write off anyway, that's not an issue, but many of them have businesses big enough that they are not the only stakeholder, and they do need to justify the spend with traditional metrics, which might bias some of them towards the Supercars card.

It's a two edged sword |

Aus GT issues heavily revised 2017 calendar
New calendar. massive backdown/slapdown. Guess it was more than half the teams that were not happy AA were on the track, but no race at PI 4 rounds will now be on the FTA rounds as well, and all Gt championship rounds will be on fox (unlike this year) stand alone round has gone Last edited by peckstar; 19 Jan 2017 at 05:01. |

From a sporting point of view that is a really disappointing outcome.
It will be interesting to see the event schedules and see if V8SC have come to the party and provided more/better track time. Sadly for me, its PI for the endurance series event and thats it in 2017. |

I'd prefer to see it in person.
And that aside, some of those events listed today are only broadcast through Foxtel. Online streaming would be more accessible |

Streaming isn't really there yet. The service is relying on things out of its control, and most people still have bandwidth caps. "Traditional" marketers are still going to go back to tried and true eyeballs that they understand, and whether or not you like it, Foxtel has eyeballs, and specifically the most well-heeled eyeballs. I'd imagine being on Foxtel comes at significant cost, because I would presume the category itself has to pay the production costs. Not a decision taken lightly, if the cost is a couple of grand a competitor, which is what I'd think it would be. Mind you compared to tearing up exotic parts, cheap really.... |

Streaming plays a bigger role in major sporting codes year on year - as shown by WRC, NRL, AFL digital platforms increasing in value & quantity each year. Not saying it's the equal of live television yet but in a cost vs benefit discussion it's a worthy debate, especially for a fledgling category like AGT. The Bathurst 12 hour has shown the numbers you can attract domestically & internationally via streaming. Add to that the numbers attracted via SBS speedweek and again it's a worthy debate. Maybe AGT management should engage an independent marketing / sponsorship consultant to look at the value with both options. I do wonder how much perceived sponsor value through Foxtel is about some individuals/teams being associated to the v8 scene |

from memory the latest number we had for streaming of the bathurst 12 hour showed that just 30,000 people watched.(2015 race) Thats not a lot of people. Not when you have to provide cameras and cameramen to do the streaming. sure you can do it cheap and have only 2 or 3 cameras, but that is far from awesome viewing on long track . It works better in ball sports (with no other coverage) where you can use just one camera and get enough coverage that way (the FFA cup was done this way in the earlier rounds) But in Gt3 streaming is a long way away from being satisfactory from a sponsorship point of view that many teams are requiring, One thinks you choose the wrong side when you brought the speedcafe video from a couple of weeks ago, you hammered the guy who asked the hard questions and you let off the guy who gave the politically correct schmaltzy responses. My issue was the Hodges didn't ask questions - he pushed his pre conceived idea and clearly had agenda on the issue. Not ideal for a host |

Actually i think your issue was that Hodge asked questions that pushed your pre concieved ideas and you didnt like it. Thus he was an ideal host because he asked the hard questions but McConville lacked the desire to genuinely answer them. We have the answers now though Streaming is not the answer if you want to grow the series, |

I have wayched the video twice, You didn't like that he asked hard questions (or made hard statments as a question) and so are down on him. The key questions that he asked have now been answered but in a way that you dont like (rejoining supercar rounds) |
