Sorry to all my English 10/10ths friends but I think Clarkson is a pompous arse..
We have oue own motoring show now called Drive on the Ten Network..its not bad and it throws across to 5th Gear and Vicki...My wife Janet wondered why I liked watching the BTCC as Vicki was hosting it.. http://www.drive.com.au/DriveTV/ A snippet from the Lifestyle site: Humorous and irreverent, this top motoring magazine program is unashamedly enthusiastic about motoring. Each week, British car TV journalists, Quentin Willson, Tiff Needell, Vicki Butler-Henderson, Adrian Simpson and Tom Ford bring you news of the fast and the furious from the four-wheeled world. Whilst other car programs feature certain elements, only 5th Gear has the whole package. It’s the only car show you’ll ever need! |

It's a very long time since Quentin Willson appeared on 5th Gear. You're not watching 2002 repeats down there are you?!
I totally understand Jeremy Clarkson divides opinion. Always has done, always will do. But to miss Top Gear just cos you don't like him is, I think, a shame. If you watch Top Gear and 5th Gear back to back, the difference in quality - the camera work, the groundwork for the items, the serious bits, the funny bits... TG makes 5th Gear look like a bodged 6th form project. |

If you wanted to see a review of a car that you may want to buy or are interested in the serious side of buying and owning a car then 5th gear is by far the better programme.
BUT if you are looking for a bit of fun, an entertaining programme, that also has the odd car in it then Top gear is better. |

BTW has he had his teeth fixed? QUOTE] Yea.. think he had them whitened ! I enjoy Top Gear, think the pizz taking that goes on between the three of them is funny. Enjoyed watching three super cars trying to get in and out of a multi-story car park and thought Ellen McArthur's lap rocked on Sunday nite ! |

I would hope people didnt watch either of these for a review of a car they are planning on buying. If your going to trust there judgement then, i think you shouldnt have the responsibility of buying a car!

Well, most of the cars they review I can't afford anyway (actually, that's probably ALL the cars...), so I watch it for the entertainment value, and TG certainly has that.

Both programmes are purely entertainment, but Top Gear have got it right and 5th Gear have got it horribly, woefully wrong. If you want a realistic review of a new car to help you make a purchase decision, then buy a cross section of motoring magazines to get a few different opinions. What Car? is a good source of hard info, though their road test conclusions are occasionally baffling (to me at least). Top Gear mag also tests a fairly wide range of cars. EVO is the best of the lot (by a country mile) if you're after a performance car. But I'd still take what any road tester says with a pinch of salt and go out and confirm it yourself. |

I know a bundle of people who don't like cars and watch Top Gear every week.
'Nuff said. |

Also, the supercars were hilarious - it would have been easier, cheaper and probably faster to walk! |

Screened last nite down here on Top Gear was the show on the three supercars..
Clarkson (********) in his Ford GT40, May in a Ferrari and Hammond (Robin the Boy Wonder) in a Zonder... both shows have their pluses and minuses and I do find that TG seems to swing towards the yuppie car market alot....where FG had a shoot out on minivans last week...something that the average ppl can buy. |

I'd rather watch the "yuppie" car market cars that you suggest Top Gear show as they are entertaining. I can go into a show room and test drive an ordinary car. AND ITS ZONDA! |

I don't want to watch Tom Ford pootling around in an Astra, because I can pootle around in my own Astra. What I want from a car show is three blokes tearing across europe in huge, fast, gas-guzzling supercars whilst taking the mickey out of each other in an entertaining and endearing way. |

That is certainly true, although on Drive (a new show here in Australia ) Michael Stahl did a fantastic review of the small car market, with half a dozen cars, they showed what they looked like and he gave a potted summary of each car all within about 5min or so. I think there is room for that sort of segment in a motoring show, it covers a whole chunk of the real (mundane) world in one go.

Thats right on SBS 7.30pm..(new series well for us anyway)
I'd like to back up the words from john875 as our show has a great cross reference of all vehicles from shopping trolleys to V8/turbo 6 utes or the yuppies in their manhood extention exotics... and by the way sorry teach for the spelling mistake |

I would like to see a show that looks at used cars as well as just new ones, as the majority of car buyers buy used cars. A show that looked at something like 'Supercars for less than 20k' or '5 year old Prestige Cars'...
